Optical Systems Engineer*

As an Optical Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of sensor components for TOMRA sorting machines. This includes spectroscopic sensors, pulse laser assemblies, and laser triangulation systems - your ideas can directly make a contribution to the performance of our future systems.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary group of 9 motivated and skilled developers, who cover a diversity of backgrounds and topics like optics, analog electronics, embedded systems, software engineering, mechanical engineering, 3D printing, and image processing.

Your tasks

  • Test, evaluate, analyze, and industrialize (spectroscopic) image acquisition systems, high-power laser optics, and their components.
  • Evaluate optical parts from second sources/end-of-life (EOL).
  • Continuous improvement of optical sensor systems.
  • Define, plan, and implement test tools and setups.
  • Specification of optical components.
  • Provide technical support to production, strategic purchasing, and quality assurance departments.
  • Master's or diploma degree in applied physics, optical engineering, or similar field.
  • Broad technical interest: eager to expand knowledge in optics, electronics, optical materials classification, and software engineering.
  • Analytical and systematic approach with a drive for innovative solutions.
  • Ideally, experience with optical detectors, optical spectrometers, and analog electronics.
  • Knowledge of optical design tools (e.g., Zemax) or circuit simulation software (e.g., LTSPICE) is a plus.
  • Background in (laser) physics, preferably with knowledge and experience in pulse lasers.
  • Programming skills, particularly in Python, are advantageous.
  • Fluent in English, at least basic proficiency in German.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
