About the Working Families Party

The Working Families Party (WFP) is the progressive party for the multiracial working class, fighting for a nation that works for the many, not the few. We recruit, train, and support transformational candidates up and down the ballot — and run them to win.

We believe that no matter where we come from or what our color, most of us want the same things. We want to earn enough to thrive, not just survive, and leave a better future for our kids. We want healthy food and clean water, safe neighborhoods and a safe world. We want to be free.

The Working Families Party is regular people coming together across our differences to make a better future for us all. We’re a multiracial party that fights for workers over bosses and people over the powerful. We want an America which realizes the promise – unrealized in our history – of freedom and equality for all.

The State Power Division is a newly created division that includes over 100 staff members in 14 chartered WFP states. State level operations endorse and elect thousands of candidates each year including some of the most dynamic elected officials in the country. And our work at the state level goes beyond serving as electoral operatives. In each state we are building a strong and aligned party infrastructure including member organizations and individual activists and leaders, a cycle-to-cycle voter engagement program that focuses on the multi-racial working class and a plan to win governing power with a strong focus on organizing and supporting caucuses of legislators.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for supporting the Deputy National Director in establishing administrative systems to support the development of the State Power Division, liasing with the operations, finance, compliance and data teams to streamline and increase compliance with internal processes and supporting events of the Division including staff and stakeholder meetings. This is a great position for someone who has the interest and the initiative to build systems and structures from the ground up, while also learning from and working across a breadth of operational expertise in the full organization. WFP is a large, growing, operationally complex environment, offering significant opportunities for growth and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operations:
  • Support scheduling, preparation and follow up on standing internal meetings in the Division.
  • Working with the data team, develop and maintain channels for internal communication. Support the collection of priority information from state level staff to inform national plans, programs and priorities.
  • Serve as a key support to the operations team in ensuring state level understanding of and adoption of centralized national operational systems. Develop and implement recommendations to improve state level adoption and to make systems work better for state users.
  • Work closely with the Deputy National Director and the finance and development teams to project manage execution of elements of the budget and finance process, with a goal of streamlining communication and increasing accuracy and shared understanding of the process.
  • Events:
  • Support the planning and execution of the Division’s events for the year, including staff meetings and retreats and meetings of our leaders. This will include managing all aspects of the operations.
  • Working across the organization, assess the need for operational support for state level events and help develop supporting infrastructure. This could mean contributing to the development of organization-wide resources and guides and will sometimes mean providing direct support to state level staff on the operations of events.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in an operational position, with a preference for candidates who have done operational work in a multi-entity (c3/c4/PAC) environment.
  • Facility with and willingness to learn administrative systems including an organizational ticketing system on Zendesk, Poliops, Every Action, and others. Competency with AirTable, Zoom, Google Suite, and Excel.
  • Experience with event planning, including having planned and executed at least one multi-day in person event for 50+ participants.
  • Strong project management skills, with an ability to develop and implement project plans. The ability to manage up and across the organization is particularly important in this role, as the ideal candidate will need to instruct staff at every level to stick to key deadlines and processes.
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to both communicate with operational experts about highly complex systems and communicate with systems users.
  • High level of attention to detail, with the ability to summarize complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a diverse, complex organization or eco-system to accomplish work involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of staff, volunteers and supporters across all demographics and backgrounds--especially race, gender and class.
  • An interest in electoral politics and a commitment to building a third political force in American politics.
