The Operations Manager reports to the Plant Manager, and is responsible for the overall leadership of the Coating, Finishing, and Converting Business Unit’s operational performance as it relates to its financial, quality, service, safety and  employee relations success. 

 

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Employee Development & Management 

  • Train and provide development opportunities for team members.  Ensure annual goals are complete and communicated.  Ensure Global Performance Management System is up to date and regular feedback is provided to team members.

  • Monitor and evaluate team members, and adjust training where needed.  Attract, retain and develop high potential talent.

  • Model and promote the Corporation's Code of Business Conduct, Ethics and Values.

  •  Perform general management duties, exercising authority concerning staff, performance appraisals, promotions and terminations.  Responsible for training and development of subordinate staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies.

 

Operations Management Responsibilities

  • Analyze and draw information for long-term strategic change and improvement.

  • Drive execution of site improvement plans, help set operations improvement goals, ensure priorities and accountabilities are clear, provide resources and remove obstacles to ensure success.

  • Develop organizational culture that fosters continuous improvement.

  •  Successfully implement annual and long-term financial and business plans (financial, safety, service, organization, inventory).

  • Lead significant projects and improvement initiatives

  • Create a vision and operating strategy/plan for the Coating, Finishing and Converting Business Units; steer the business units toward that vision.

  • Leads collaboration with other functional areas to help resolve issues and improve manufacturing processes.

  • Ensure that manufacturing team members meet site goals and objectives.

  • Supervise and work in a hands-on role that will include daily planning/scheduling, procurement, and logistics management.

  • Plan and forecast inventory to include managing inventory levels and inventory turns and minimizing obsolescence, scrap, aged inventories and inventory reserves.

  • Maximize production efficiency through reduced changeovers, machine downtime and downtime due to raw materials/component shortages.

  • Develop and implement new, effective programs/policies for supplier, transportation and logistic management.

  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly inventory & service reports as well as participate in the monthly metrics review.

  • Accountable for departmental budget and project deliverables. Secure and allocate appropriate resources and manage projects to meet Divisional goals and achieve financial objectives.

  • Develop Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures (OGSM) for assigned areas and confirm linkage to global business strategies.

  • Understand and implement ISO 9000 procedures related to the role and responsibilities of the Operations Manager position.

  • Proactively communicates with the Plant Leadership Team regarding employee and operational challenges/concerns. 

  • Works collaboratively with the Plant Leadership Team to resolve challenges/concerns.

  • Foster a culture where safety is a core value in daily operation and strive towards an accident-free workplace.

  • Be a visible leader capable of engaging team members at all levels of the organization.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related manufacturing field.

  • 8+ year’s solid business experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing individuals and teams.

  • Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures. 

  • Strong knowledge and experience with ISO 9000 Quality System.. 

  • General business knowledge within the converting or pressure sensitive industries 

  • Experience working in a Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated success in operations leadership, improvement process and in having the ability to understand and integrate consumer needs, marketing strategies and broader business challenges.

  • Strong knowledge of the financial measures within Operations and demonstrated ability to meet key financial objectives.
