Operations Maintenance Supervisor III

The role of the Operation Maintenance Supervisor III is to plan, schedule and actively work with the landscape maintenance service crews from season start to end.  As a working supervisor, with a minimum of 5 year’s experience, you will be responsible for operating (on a daily basis), heavy equipment, including: excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, trailers as well as ensuring quality workmanship and efficient production.  This position will continue during the winter with a similar supervisor capacity. It will require 24/7 availability for those winter months.
 
The Operation Maintenance Supervisor ensures proper administration of training, pay practices and timesheet review, employee hiring, promotion, and termination as well as assigning work, ensures proper site photography, and daily reporting documentation, enforces safety practices, investigates injury and damage claims, and company disciplinary policy. This role assumes responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of records.

The Operation Maintenance Supervisor directs crew operations, confers with customers, property owners, the general public, other contractors, and representatives of clients. Ensures priority determination and time management while planning projects. Has a clear understanding of project objectives, short and long-term goals, and objectives. 

What you will do:

  • Supervises Grounds or Snow management crews.  
  • Ensures rules, guidelines and specifications are followed.  
  • Coordinate with Vice President & Director of Operations.  
  • Pre-inspect projects and develop recommended management plans, matching labor and equipment resources to work and cost estimates.  
  • Maintain accurate project circuit maps noting project status, crew locations and estimated completion dates.  
  • Coordinate materials, labor, and equipment.  
  • Audit time sheets for accuracy.  
  • Assist with customer notifications and customer complaints.  
  • Preview work assignments and conduct post work critiques for each crew.  
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of tools and supplies to sufficiently support the compliment of assigned crews.    
  • Coordinate activities with other Supervisors to ensure customer’s requirements are achieved.  
  • Operates heavy equipment (excavator, high rail excavator, skid steer, wheel loader, trailers) 
  • Performs other duties as required.  

What we are looking for:

  • Must have the ability to evaluate site conditions and time required to complete required clearances. 
  • Must have a smartphone and computer knowledge. 
  • Must be able to communicate with various levels of field and management personnel and write reports.  
  • Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and the requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.  
  • Must be able to wear necessary PPE as necessary.  
  • Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous time a day.  
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to extreme weather while completing work assignments, i.e., snow, sleet, rain, heat, sun, cold.  
  • Must be able to traverse various terrains.  
  • Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.  
  • Must be able to communicate and handle confrontations professionally.  
  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work).  
  • Must have knowledge of heavy equipment.  
  • Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.  

Your background:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in landscape maintenance supervision.  
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating excavators. 
  • Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License or willing to obtain within 45 days.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., snow, sleet, rain, heat, sun, cold.   
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.  
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Work demands physical energy, twisting, some lifting ability, and hand-to-eye coordination.  
  • Uses machines, tools, equipment, and work aides used include, Skid Steer, Dump Truck, blower, Weed Wacker, plow trucks, weed killer chemicals, Fertilizer, and hand tools as required.   
  • Must have transportation to and from the show up location.
