Operations Engineer role will be responsible for all aspects of engineering for applications supported by Vonage, which includes: deploying, configuring, administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting issues. Further responsibilities include (but not limited to) evaluating application configurations, application design and involvement in project-oriented tasks. Additionally, they must also be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. The engineer will be working in a very dynamic environment with fast-paced turnaround times, including 24/7 rotational on-call support and involving interactions with other team members, product managers, QA and Dev resources in an agile environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Support a wide array of backend applications which includes deployments, on-call, maintenance, troubleshooting and applying periodic and continuous updates
- Ability to complete individual tasks end-to-end independently but working with a larger team to accomplish bigger objectives
- Determine and provide feedback on areas of improvement in process and procedure for team
- Assist in the development, implementation, documentation and adherence to Application standards
- Provides direction and guidance in the documentation of new procedures and standards
- Perform analysis, notification, and trending of application statistics gathering
- Ability to take ownership of group projects and complete all tasks on schedule
- Ability to resolve and provide a root cause analysis for any production issues. Should also be able to implement ad hoc fixes to resolve issues
- Ability to coordinate, configure and manage a test/lab environment, creating test plans for new versions of Applications
- Work closely with Care, Development, NOC, Network Engineering, Infrastructure, monitoring and other teams to resolve trouble tickets and test new application releases
- Ability to work as a member of a team and independently
- Provide 24/7 on-call/support of production applications
Specific Requirements, Skills & Education
- 5+ years of experience in Ops or related role
- Understanding of key technologies: Linux, Application or OS tuning, Networks (TCP/IP), DNS, Relational Databases (Oracle, MYSQL, EDB). SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), PERL is a plus
- Linux systems knowledge (performance tuning, basic networking, file systems)
- Experience with version control systems like Git, SVN etc
- Scripting including python, shell, java script and DB scripting
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
Additional Skills (would like to have but not required)
- AWS technologies like AWS CI/CD pipeline, EC2, EKS, Lambda, CloudFront, S3, SNS, SQS
- Experience with VOIP and related protocols (SIP/RTP)
- Experience with provisioning and troubleshooting of VOIP devices
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
