On-site Performance Excellence & Learning and Development Specialist (Manufacturing)

Vericast is seeking a Performance Excellence, Learning & Development Specialist to join our High Point team! In this role, the Performance Excellence, L & D Specialist will:

  • Support the development and maintenance of a Performance Excellence culture, particularly in the areas of continuous improvement and organizational and personal learning at our High Point manufacturing location. 
  • Lead and support manufacturing initiatives that improve organizational performance and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Performance Excellence business model and how it is applied in their location.
  • Lead learning and development initiatives and support plant leadership in implementing company and manufacturing training procedures and practices.
  • Serve as the liaison between Corporate Performance Excellence and Learning and Development resources and the plant.
  • Perform all general training duties, coordinate the plant certification and training programs, ensuring all training is documented and tracked.
  • Provide reports to plant and corporate leadership as required.
  • Collaborate with Performance Excellence/L&D resources across the organization to promote the transfer of knowledge; identify share and embed best practices; and help each other solve problems. 

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership 
    • Serves as a member of the local Leadership Team (LT) & facilitates LT meetings as required.
    • Champions Performance Excellence business model for the location.
    • Assists Plant Leader in planning and conducting local Goal Deployment meetings and processes as noted immediately below.
    • Helps identify and prepare Goal Deployment action plans and Key Performance Indicators.
    • Leads review and update of Goal Deployment Action Plans and Key Performance Indicators at least quarterly.
    • Ensures company and local level Goal Deployment plans are communicated to all plant employees.
    • Assists with periodic Performance Excellence Assessments including preparing documentation conducting assessments evaluating results and developing action plans to address improvement opportunities.
    • Supports the organizational e-learning strategy to include HR compliance, management follow-up training, and leadership training support.
  • Teams 
    • Supports team discipline and value-based behavior expectations for the Harland Clarke Manufacturing Work System.
    • Serves as a mentor for project team leadership.
    • Coaches project team leadership to ensure team disciplines are used correctly.
    • Leads effort to embed Performance Excellence concepts and tools in production teams/natural work groups for problem resolution and/or continuous improvement.
  • Process Improvement Activity
    • Oversees the administration of the process improvement program.
    • Coaches and encourages employee involvement in process improvement activity and assists in implementing improvement ideas.
  • Local Communication
    • Establishes and implements effective communication tools and processes within the location.
    • Ensures location bulletin boards are current.
    • Ensures Focus Meetings are planned and conducted for all shifts.
    • Identifies Focus Meeting opportunities for improvement based on meeting surveys and other feedback and establishes and implements improvements as appropriate.
  • Certification Program Coordination
    • Ensures all local certification materials are current and in use.
    • Ensures required certifications are in place and in use for each technical skill/position.
    • Ensures there are sufficient numbers of trainers and subject matter experts for each certification.
    • Identifies and addresses barriers that prevent timely certification. 
    • Ensures that recertification is accomplished when required.
    • Ensures employees delivering certification training/testing are properly informed and using correct documents.
    • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to obtain the content needed to create and update training and certification materials.
  • General training
    • Conducts orientation training for new employees as needed.
    • Conducts or oversees Performance Excellence training and leadership training as necessary.
    • Collaborates with local leadership and employees to document and communicate training requirements to employees.
    • Arranges Train-The-Trainer (T3) courses as needed to ensure employees are educated to train others.
    • Coordinates training activities - ensuring leaders/attendees are notified & administrative issues addressed.
    • Contacts and works with instructors about resources needed for training activities.
    • Ensures current training materials are updated and available to employees.
    • Maintains training hours and other training data for all employees. 
  • Compliance Training Program
    • Manages annual compliance training program for the location to ensure 100% completion for all employees by the deadline on all company required and OSHA required training courses.
  • Training documentation and tracking
    • Ensures training documentation is developed for new processes, new technology, and new equipment when applicable.
    • Ensures HR receives all required certification documentation linked to skill pay.
    • Ensures all required documentation for employee training/certification is maintained in the employee’s local Learning and Development record and in the Learning Management System.
    • Supports employees in managing their learning records in the Learning Management System. Produces reports from the Learning Management System as needed to keep leaders informed of training status in the plant.
    • Conducts audits of records to ensure training documentation and tracking meet Company requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in or attending college pursuing a degree.  (Preferred)

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Demonstrable knowledge of MS Office software required.
  • Above average to very good oral and written communication and presentation skills required.
  • Examiner experience or other quality management systems and principles preferred.
  • Understanding of Goal Deployment Process or other strategic planning and deployment methodologies preferred.
  • Train the Trainer training preferred.
  • Ability to understand business strategies and translate them into actionable talent development initiatives and training preferred.
  • Experience training adult learners in job skill or soft skill areas preferred.
  • Experience with various LMS in order to maintain employee development and learning records preferred.

DECISION MAKING

Member of Local Leadership Team. Determines and recommends implementation approaches in area of responsibility. Recommends improvements to Performance Excellence and Learning and Development approaches/deployment practices.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment.
  • Primarily sitting.
  • Occasional standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasional squatting/bending/twisting.
  • Ability to work periodically on the production floor with production employees to test new processes and new equipment, in order to write detailed process instructions.
  • Ability to be flexible with work hours to support employees on all shifts.

Annual Salary:$60,000 - $70,000 Depending on experience 

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
