On-Call Strength and Conditioning specialist

On-Call Position
Your mission will be:
Reporting to the Human Performance Manager (Coaching), the Performance Conditioning Specialist will assist in the development, implementation, documentation, monitoring and assessment of individualized and group training programs for the artists in the show. He or she will promote general maintenance and performance conditioning interventions to enhance performance and ensure longevity of performance career.
Specific Job duties:
• Coordinate with Head Coach, Head Therapist, Head of Performance Science and/or other Performance Conditioning Specialists to assess the needs for the physical training of individual Artists and performance enhancement needs of an act;
• Based on the planning from the Head Coach, Head Therapist, Head of Performance Science: develop, implement and monitor corrective exercise or performance conditioning programs;
• Identify and report conditioning, de-conditioning and injury trends at show as requested;
• Objectively assess, measure, adjust and document all programs implemented;
• Maintain filing system and document all programs implemented;
• Develop criteria based post analysis report of each conditioning program to measure efficacy of the program and whether objectives were met;
• Administer or assist in physical capacity assessments;
• Assist Head Coaches with the development of integration and re-integration protocols for new and returning Artists;
• Support the Head of Performance Science in collaborating with the IHQ & TSD Coaching, Artist Training and Performance Medicine staff to ensure the continuity of the process of physical training from the training environment to the show for Artists;
• Assess innovative ways of using time and work with the existing artist's schedule to integrate portions or all of the prescribed programs within the weekly working schedule;
• Establish a system with the Artists which would help to sustain motivation in this domain;
• Have knowledge of workload assessment for each artist or act that participates in a conditioning program
• Help develop an educational program that will help to increase Artist's awareness of different variables pertaining to the training program's methods and encourage autonomy in Artists when it comes to carrying out their physical fitness program;
• Employ objective assessments (FMS/SFMA/PCA), appropriate exercise strategies and scientific principles (exercise selection/specificity & overload/acute variable prescription) when designing or modifying conditioning interventions based on specific adaptations or outcomes;
• Utilize the Performance Science team and integrate appropriate metrics into Performance Conditioning programming and act assessments;
• Reinforce through your actions an appropriate use of the Performance Specialties support services (Performance Conditioning, Performance Nutrition and Performance Psychology);
• Participate actively in organized research on performance factors in circus disciplines and dancers;
• Support Coaches’ use of technology currently available within CdS to assess and enhance performance;
• Propose new technology that will support the performance to the Head of Performance Science;
• All other duties as assigned by the Head of Performance Science or Director of Coaching & Performance.
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Physical Activity Sciences or a combination of studies and experience offering both a theoretical and practical structure for the study of physical activity, sports, movement or circus arts (Masters degree preferred);
· Advanced certification/specialization in Human Performance/Injury Prevention (Strength & Conditioning/Performance Enhancement);
· Valid license in Athletic Therapy or Athletic Training or Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy;
· At least four years of previous relevant experience working with high-caliber athletes, circus disciplines and/or dancers;
· Knowledge and/or experience in circus arts/disciplines is an asset;
· Fluency in English, spoken and written; French and Russian an asset;
· Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word and Excel);
· Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment;
· Ability to quickly adapt to unexpected situations and follow a variable schedule while working under pressure;
· Ability to work and communicate with medical professionals;
· Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to work autonomously;
· Communication and management skills in a context of diversity
· Capacity to establish and maintain close relationships
· Leadership, critical thinking, problem solving;
