On-Call Carpentry/Rigging Technician – Hawai’i – Resident Shows Division
On-Call Position
 
This position is for a new creation that will be housed in the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki Hawai’i.  The show is planning for a late fall opening with load-in and creation through spring and summer 2024. Please note that there may be exceptional delays in this recruitment process as these positions will be staffed gradually. We thank you for your understanding.
 
We are looking for a Lead Carpenter/Rigger whose role will be to support the Assistant Technical Director (ATD) in the management of the Carpentry and Rigging team operations. Reporting to the ATD, the Lead Carpenter's duties will include leading and managing show and maintenance teams in a safe and consistent manner in accordance with Cirque Du Soleil Entertainment Group standards and policies. The ideal candidate will be an organized leader and can maintain effective documentation.
 
The On-Call Carpenter/Rigger will:
-          Run cue tracks to position scenic, rigging/acrobatic elements, and related equipment as directed for performances, artist training and maintenance; 
-          Inspect, maintain and repair stage equipment, including acrobatic equipment and update maintenance and inspection records;
-          Maintain cue track documentation and participate in cue track rotation to run the performances, rehearsals, and trainings;
-          Develop a thorough knowledge of all carpentry and rigging department equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely;
-          Participate in and complete special projects, including the research, purchasing, construction and installation of new show elements, and other projects that may fall within the department’s specialty, as directed; Maintain flexible schedule for such projects; 
-          Work with technical management and departmental leads to maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity of performance operations of the department in the event of unexpected failure of a system, component or piece of equipment;
-          Assist the Technical Director and Production Services in the implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections – particularly Life Safety and Show Critical;
-          Ensure all departmental designs, equipment, systems, functions, procedures, show tracks, maintenance and inspections logs, special projects, etc. are properly and adequately documented;
-          Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
-          Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
-          Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
-          Complete all other job-related duties as assigned. 
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
-          At least one year of previous experience working on large scale production shows;
-          Previous experience working with maintenance programs an asset;
-          Previous experience with theatrical construction an asset;
-          Ability to operate or train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment;
-          Working knowledge of ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2020, ANSI E1.42-2016;
-          working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook; Experience working with AutoCAD/ Vectorworks/ Solidworks an asset;
-          Formal fall protection and overall safety training;
-          Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card;
-          ETCP certification an asset;
-          Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays; 
-          High School Diploma or equivalent;
-          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
-          Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts;
-          Professional appearance and demeanor;
-          Knowledge of basic theatrical rigging, basic mechanics, electricity and electronics is an asset;
-          Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is $36 USD/hour.
This rate is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary.
