Beam Therapeutics is hiring an

Off-Target Biology Co-Op

Cambridge, United States

Company Overview:

Beam Therapeutics is committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform that includes a suite of gene editing and delivery technologies and is in the process of building internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of potential therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

Position Overview:

Beam is looking for a highly energetic and motivated co-op student to join our Off-target Biology Team from January through June 2025. This co-op student will be responsible for performing off-target discovery and validation experiments using a variety of gene editing tools, including base editors. This platform focused position will play a key role in identifying and establishing novel technologies related to profiling off-target and unintended gene editing outcomes, while also performing and optimizing methodologies for existing tools to further enhance our understanding of gene editing outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute tissue culture and gene editing experiments in cell lines.
  • Support the profiling of gene editing outcomes using next generation sequencing (NGS)-based techniques.
  • Perform off-target editing discovery and validation assays.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of experiments in an ELN system
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively across a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in biological sciences or a related field (Bioengineering, Biochemistry/Biophysics, Cell Biology/Molecular Biology) with at least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Prior experience with tissue culture work is desirable.
  • Knowledge of genomics and molecular biology is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis.
