ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks a full-time position of an Assistant, State Campaigns in the National Political Advocacy Department (NPAD) of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NYThis is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month. 

The National Political Advocacy Department (NPAD) builds power to achieve an accountable, representative democracy. We have ambitious goals across Reproductive Freedom, Democracy and Voting Rights, Systemic Equality, Immigration, Trans Justice, Criminal Justice and other core issues in order to protect and expand civil rights and civil liberties, and advance the freedom, equality, ability to prosper, and humanity of all People.

Our department conducts analysis, develops policy, crafts world class campaigns and situates the ACLU to have impact across legislative, administrative, and electoral levers. We are policy experts, lawyers, community organizers, lobbyists, campaign strategists, electoral specialists, program managers and more. We partner across the ACLU to drive national efforts, and support and amplify the priorities of our affiliates. We work to center principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our approach.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by Local 2110 of the United Auto Workers Union. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

The Assistant will report to the Director, State Campaigns and the Deputy Director, State Campaigns and support the State Campaigns Division.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

  • Handle general administrative duties including scheduling, arranging travel, processing and tracking expense reports and invoices, data entry, maintaining filing systems, and ordering supplies
  • Handle travel arrangements and calendar for Division leadership
  • Provide logistical support for Division events, scheduling and arranging meetings, conference calls and webinars; coordinating catering and audio-visual requests; preparing materials and taking minutes
  • Process and track budget-related matters, including travel expenses
  • Maintain databases and organize electronic and hard copy filing and tracking systems
  • Draft correspondence and other materials as requested; respond to written and verbal inquiries, as directed
  • Prepare, proofread, coordinate, and edit documents
  • Provide administrative support for the managers’ review of applications for intern positions
  • Work jointly with interns and communicate routine and/or procedural guidance on projects assigned by managers
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible and adjust priorities as necessary in order to adapt to changing external environment
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills; detail oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously, often under strict deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence to navigate a large department and complex organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

COMPENSATION

The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU's compensation philosophy there is a set salary for this role. The ACLU also has a locality adjustment policy that applies to salaries. The annual salary for this position is $75,007, reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY. This position is subject to a hybrid schedule of 2 days/week or 8 days/month in-office.
