Position Summary:
The Network Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the design, deployment, and daily operations of high-performance, low-latency network infrastructure for the most innovative research labs under Samsung umbrella. This role focuses on Cisco NEXUS and Palo Alto networks, as well as cloud network infrastructure. You will lead network engineering efforts across cloud and on-premises systems, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and ensure operational excellence through automation and industry best practices.
This role also includes engaging with customers on a daily basis, handling feedback, and providing data-driven insights to senior leadership. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in managing and optimizing large-scale networks, process development, and automating network operations.
As the Network Operations Manager, you will play a critical role in leading, mentoring, and building a high-performing network engineering team. You will be responsible for recruiting top talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and providing guidance to team members to help them develop their technical expertise. Your leadership will be essential in driving collaboration across the organization, ensuring that your team is aligned with project goals, and building a foundation of trust and excellence. You will also implement strategies to enhance team performance, cultivate a growth mindset, and ensure that the team is equipped to meet the evolving needs of the business.
This role works onsite at our Samsung Research America (SRA) location in Mountain View, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Network Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day network and cloud infrastructure operations, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across Cisco NEXUS 9000 and 3000 series networks.
- Customer Engagement: Engage with customers regularly to identify their needs, provide timely feedback, and build strong relationships. Propose new services and processes based on customer feedback.
- Design & Architecture: Lead the design, deployment, and architecture of complex TCP/IP-based networks, Cisco, Palo Alto, and cloud environments. Focus on high-throughput, low-latency network systems.
- Routing Protocols: Implement and manage advanced network routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and VPLS, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
- Network Security: Deploy and manage advanced security solutions (Cisco ASA, Next-Gen Firepower, Palo Alto Next-Gen firewalls), VPNs, PKI, and secure protocols (IPSec, SSL, IKev2).
- Automation & Optimization: Lead network automation initiatives, using Cisco technologies to increase operational agility, optimize network configurations, and streamline workflows.
- Project Leadership: Manage complex, cross-functional programs in a large enterprise, coordinating between different teams, balancing competing priorities, and providing status updates to senior management.
- Process Development: Drive process development initiatives and ensure compliance with best practices in network design and operation.
- Cloud Network Operations: Ensure seamless operations of cloud networks, optimizing WAN/Internet connections and VPNs, and overseeing cloud network security.
- Reports and Analytics: Collect and analyze network performance data, generate recurring network reports, and provide key metrics and insights to senior management for decision-making.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Monitor network infrastructure, troubleshoot and resolve service interruptions, and ensure continuity of operations.
- People Management: Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing network engineering team. Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented culture by mentoring team members and providing ongoing training to build technical expertise. Ensure the team is aligned with business objectives and equipped to meet evolving technical challenges.
Requirements
- Experience: 10+ years of demonstrated experience in network engineering and architecture roles, with a focus on Cisco NEXUS and Palo Alto technologies, and cloud networks.
- Required Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP networks, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPLS), Cisco NEXUS 9000/3000, Palo Alto firewalls, and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Network Security: Proven experience with network security operations, including Cisco ASA, Next-Generation Firewalls, and encryption technologies.
- Project Management: 6+ years of experience managing complex cross-functional programs in large enterprises, handling multiple competing priorities.
- Automation Skills: Experience building and deploying network automation solutions with a focus on Cisco technologies.
- Cloud Experience: Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and security, including Cisco ISE and SD-WAN.
- Communication: Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills for interacting with customers and senior leadership.
- Technical Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio for reporting and analysis.
- People Management: Proven ability to hire, lead, mentor, and build a high-performing technical team. Experience fostering team growth, developing talent, and aligning team goals with business objectives.
- Willing and able to commute to the office 5 days per week located in Mountain View, CA.
- Willing and able to travel for business up to 15% in the U.S. and Canada

The base pay range for this role is $170000 - $200000 per year.
Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of the role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. U.S.-based employees also receive, per calendar year, up to 10 scheduled paid holidays, and Paid Time Off.
