Job purpose
Janes requires a naval weapons subject matter expert to conduct research and in-depth analysis of the naval technologies in service and being developed to fight future wars.
The successful candidate will work closely with other analysts in the Weapons Team to connect our data in new and exciting ways, helping to build up and enhance our world-class database of naval weapons content.
How you will contribute at Janes
- You will conduct open-source research on all naval weapons – including air-defence systems, torpedoes, mines, uncrewed surface attack vessels and artillery – and use your expertise to support our government, military and defence industry customers around the world.
- You will deliver insight in many forms, from specifications databases and reference text to webinars and bespoke reports.
- You will be encouraged and supported to write news and long-form analytical pieces.
- You will build relationships with defence equipment manufacturers and system users, attend exhibitions, conferences and events, representing Janes and gathering primary research.
- You will be a strong team player, keen to work with other Janes analysts to peer review content and ensure the highest possible quality standards.
- Lead the development and implementation of improvements to our naval weapons – and wider – content sets.
Requirements
- Educated to at least degree level in a relevant technical subject area.
- Knowledge of naval weapons operation and design is essential, with hands-on experience an advantage.
- Candidates must be strong communicators, fluent in written and spoken English, ideally with a proven ability to produce technical writing, though we will provide training and support where required.
- Other language skills – particularly Chinese and Russian – are highly valued, but not essential.
- A good networker, able to build relationships with external subject matter experts will flourish in this role.
- Organisation and problem-solving skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
