Primary Function of Position

Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures highly complex mechanical systems (including instruments and accessories) for use in robotic-assisted surgery. The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the technical aspects of product designs, as well as well as providing capable direct engineering support.

Essential Job Duties

A successful candidate will have strong technical depth in key areas for mechanical design, the energy to support simultaneous projects and the compassion to support their teams growth. The candidate will technically manage projects across cross-functional groups and vendors.  A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience designing commercial mechanical products; preferably medical device products
  • Experience leading technical projects and teams
  • Hands-on engineering with the proven ability to work well in a team environment and initiative to drive individual projects
  • Excellent cross-functional written and communication skills
  • Perpetual curiosity
  • People management abilities with capacity to ensure team success (staffing, productivity)

Required Education and Training

  • BSME or equivalent

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • SolidWorks
  • Microsoft Project
  • Confluence
