The Monitor Technician functions as a member of the patient care team, under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), and under the direction of the unit director. Performs unit receptionist and clerical duties, including transcribing orders and ordering supplies. Continuously monitors, interprets, and reports cardiac rhythms and other hemodynamic perimeters to appropriate personnel.
Responsibilities
- Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.

Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs configuration as necessary.

Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information. Maintains telemetry system.

Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
- Greets customers courteously and conveys message to the appropriate person, while providing excellent customer service.

Demonstrates accountability for maintaining and advancing job performance skills. Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Orients and mentors new staff members, serving as a resource.
- Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and IT as appropriate.
- Gives report to oncoming shift.
- Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations.
- Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry, and transport monitors.
- Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees and visitors.
- Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current BLS certification (attain in first week of employment)

Successful completion of monitor tech training program within 6 months of employment
