ML Engineer for Scene Understanding and Prediction (SUP)

Our vision is to achieve zero accidents and peace of mind for mobility by predicting the behavior of surrounding objects (e.g. pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, etc) and the ego-vehicle based on the state of the art technologies.

Our mission is to create world-class software and build the safest car in the world by realizing the most accurate and powerful prediction technologies for active safety systems (Guardian) and automated driving systems (Chauffeur).

We will build prediction technologies through an agile and data-driven approach, by leveraging the diverse and immense real-world data collected from customers and fleet vehicles in the market.

As a ML engineer on the Scene Understanding and Prediction team, you will develop cutting-edge technologies for our prediction stack that will be deployed to millions of Toyota users worldwide.

You are a versatile engineer who can work on all stages of development from proof of concept to production, and familiar with data-driven approaches.

You are self-motivated to find solutions to complex real-world problems, and make an impact while contributing to a cross-functional team. You will combine cutting-edge technologies with robust safety standards while also considering cost efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver potentially releasable increments of the prediction software verified by Continuous Integration, SILS, HILS, and the prototype vehicle tests in closed test track and public road at the end of each sprint, as a member of a Scrum Software Development team.
  • Apply the state of the art technologies to the industry by conducting advanced proof-of-concept development. Collaborate with other entities such as Woven Planet North America (WPNA), Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and Toyota Research Institute (TRI), to facilitate the deployment of software as a serial product of Toyota Safety Sense / Toyota Teammate Advanced Drive.
  • Be an evangelist of ML practices and share the mindset with those around you.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
  • 5+ years of software development experience using both C/C++ and Python
  • 3+ years in product development or full development cycle of 1 product as ML engineer, preferably for robotics or automotive industry
  • Professional experience with designing, training and evaluating deep learning models
  • Business level proficiency in English in speaking/writing/reading

PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in Real-Time Embedded / Automotive software development
  • Experience in the Scrum framework of Agile development
  • Experience in ADAS development, including making system requirements and architecture design, etc.
  • Experience in prediction and/or perception algorithms
  • Experience in CI/CD development
  • Experience in Failsafe/FTA/FMEA/Functional Safety
  • Business level proficiency in Japanese in speaking/writing/reading
