For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students with a background in Engineering or Computer Science, along with previous coding and business analysis experience. Collaborating with the Supervisor of Engineering Systems, this extraordinary opportunity offers hands-on experience in the mining industry, particularly in Mine Engineering Systems. This role not only allows you to work closely with industry professionals but also provides exposure to new technologies and real-world projects. You will have opportunities for both technical and non-technical work, vendor engagement, delivery and sustainment, process improvement, project management, and innovation. This position offers a nice mix of business analysis and technical aspects.
Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based). You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Plan and implement updates to existing systems (purchased, configured, and/or developed internally) as well as new solutions in the engineering systems space (including but not limited to Drill and Blast, Geology, and Geotechnical systems).
- Support engagement and sustainment activities for Drill and Blast, Geology, and Geotechnical systems (including incident, problem, defect, and improvement management).
- Coordinate efforts to deliver resources with other teams and groups within the Digital Operations, Technology, and Innovation department.
- Test, analyze, and provide quality assurance for software solutions in place for mining engineering.
- Perform software design, development, unit, and integration testing. Build systems specifications documents as well as external systems design documentation.
- Provide timely application support and vendor engagement to ensure resolution of support-related issues when required.
- Elicit detailed functional and non-functional requirements as well as process optimization activities to ensure business needs and requirements are captured.
- Provide estimates for software development and testing, leading small to medium-sized software implementations.
- Opportunities to be involved in software development using DEVOPS, Azure Cloud-enabled solutions.
Qualifications
- Preference will be given to students with diverse educational backgrounds, including an undergraduate bachelor’s or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Applied Sciences.
- Proficient in solving problems, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of SQL, ERD, data modeling, T-SQL, SQL Server, SSRS, and Power BI development.
- Familiarity with MS Azure DevOps.
- Programming experience in Python, C#, or Java.
- Previous experience in System/Business analysis is helpful.
- Proficiency in the Spanish language is an asset.
- Previous experience in SCCM, ServiceNow, and software package creation and deployment would be an asset but not required.
- Software development experience in .NET technologies would be an asset.
- Curiosity to learn more about the mining industry and Mining Engineering systems technical analysis.
- Ability to work efficiently independently as well as part of a team.
- Confirmed ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently, and proven experience in requirements analysis and specification.
- Self-directed and motivated by sophisticated technical and business challenges, with the ability to handle several projects and work schedules simultaneously.
- A strong “make it happen,” positive, adaptable, and constructive mature work ethic.
- Understanding of analytics and quality assurance, system implementation, and support for engineering systems, including quality assurance and testing for custom-developed solutions with the Microsoft technology stack.
- Open pit mining experience and/or a geology background would also be an asset.
- Ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand.
