The Microbiology Supervisor coordinates the operation and activity of their designated section. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the delivery of accurate and reliable laboratory data. Daily responsibilities include: management of staffing, supply inventory, QC review, and Performance Improvement activities. The Supervisor performs other technical or managerial duties as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership for processes and staff engagement by promoting teamwork, cooperation and positive attitude. Models example of effective communication with both internal and external customers.
- Monitors activity and prepares reports for Laboratory Performance Improvement.
- Monitors and coordinates implementation and practice of section policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Works with Laboratory Leadership Team on Laboratory Strategic Plan.
- Evaluates R&D of opportunities/activities for new and/or improved services.
- Pursues self-development through Continuing Education and encourages others to do the same.
- Involved in training new staff and clinical students.
- Writes and delivers performance evaluations of personnel working in section. Oversees special project work.
- Effectively manages section Quality Control, section Proficiency, and Personal Proficiency Testing program.
- Evaluates turn-around times, troubleshoots if indicated. Participates in development of laboratory capital and operation budgets.
- Assures compliance to all applicable CAP and TJC standards.
- Assure appropriate reagent and supply inventory and usage, investigates/evaluates new products, works with vendors to seek cost-saving opportunities.
- Participates in appropriate house-wide committees.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
-
Bachelor of Science per CLIA 88.
-
MT /MLS (ASCP), HEW, or eligible.
- Minimum four (4) years current experience in Microbiology & one (1) year in Molecular.
