What you'll do

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing quality health care services to all residents including assessing somatic conditions, delivering medications according to procedure and creating a favorable group climate for the effective treatment of each resident in treatment. This position supports the Behavioral Health Division of Pioneer Human Services by performing administrative and supervisory tasks to support the provision of quality and cost effective medical services to behavioral health clients. Primary/essential duties and responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Interprets and explains program policy to each client as needed.
  • Integrates knowledge by thinking through and planning the most professional, therapeutic reaction or intervention in any given client care situation.
  • Aids in the client's educational process-academic and social, including conducting health education classes and teaching individual clients health related issues as, self-administration of medications, administering IM injections, performing phlebotomy procedures, prevention of infectious diseases, nutrition, nicotine.
  • Assists clients in meeting health and safety needs in accordance with each individual's stage of recovery and program policies including the following:
  • Assesses and reports client concerns regarding physical and psychological needs
  • Administers medications to clients within scope of practice in accordance with RCW 18.360.050.
  • Assisting with setting up Clinic and Tele-health clinic of clients.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings as directed.
  • Meets with other program staff, consultants, volunteers, and attends other meetings as directed.
  • Licensed staff available for on-call nursing consults and injections
  • Provides written documentation of observations as input to the resident's Individual Service Plan and review process.
  • Provides pertinent verbal and written shift reports, and communication with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Documents observations of behaviors, physical signs and symptoms and psychological needs, medication delivery, ongoing health assessment needs and treatment progress and pertinent health and safety issues according to program policy.
  • Participates in other areas of treatment plan implementation as directed
  • Stocks supplies, maintains, inventories and assist with ordering of supplies
  • Follows physician orders in accordance with program policy.
  • Receives and transcribes written physician’s orders.
  • Administers medications to clients within scope of practice in accordance with RCW 18.360.050
  • Assists Physicians with clinical duties.
  • Performs and monitors resident vital signs.
  • Performs resident Urine drug screens.
  • Assists with Nursing Treatment/care Planning.
  • Requests Nursing consults.
  • Provides a safe and healthy environment which includes maintaining, cleaning, and disposal of equipment and supplies according to policy and procedures.
  • Maintains storage of medications, places orders and returns residents medication according to pharmacy services policies
  • Promotes and models teamwork and collaboration with co-workers

Dependent on specialized training/license/Certification may

  • Perform intramuscularly, subcutaneous injections within scope of practice
  • Perform TB testing
  • Perform Aseptic wound care.
  • Perform blood draws
  • Perform Ear Lavage

 

What you'll bring

  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • Washington State Medical Assistant Certification.

 

Preferably you'll bring

  • Behavioral Health or rehabilitation experience desired.
  • 6 months working in a residential setting
