JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant (Hybrid)  

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY: 

The Oncology Institute (TOI) is looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and agile Medical Assistant to join our outpatient oncology clinic. This position requires travel and will provide coverage to our Portland and Salem clinics, covering Salem 3 days per week, and Portland 2 days per week. This role will pay a $5.00 per hour pay differential for all hours at our Portland clinic. This role is ideal for candidates who are flexible, dependable, and looking to grow their clinical career.  

As a key member of the patient care team, the Medical Assistant provides administrative and clinical support to enable the seamless operation of the clinic. The ideal candidate will deliver compassionate patient care, support efficient clinic operations, and contribute to an exceptional patient experience.  

Additionally, this position will be cross-trained and responsible for supporting both patient registration and dispensary pharmacy operations. If you are an experienced Medical Assistant looking to branch out and learn new skills, this could be a great fit for you!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES: 

  • Live and exemplify TOI core values, providing outstanding customer service and promoting a positive experience for patients and staff members.  
  • Greet and interview patients to gather health history, take appropriate vital signs such as patient height, weight, and blood pressure, review current medications, and record in medical record.  
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records, including demographic, current medications and/or labs, allergies, insurance, and prescription information.  
  • Schedule appointments, complete patient registration, and collect payments, as needed. 
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by physician. 
  • Manage patient care flow and help to identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Support patient education efforts by explaining policies, procedures, and services to patients using administrative knowledge.  
  • Assist with inventory organization and stocking of exam rooms and labs.  
  • Provide support to pharmacy department including processing prescriptions, preparing and labeling medications, obtaining authorizations, assisting patients with applying for financial assistance, and inventory management, as needed. 
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality of all organizational information including patient and financial information.  
  • Participate in staff huddles and meetings.  
  • Other duties as assigned.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple clinics  
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy. 
  • Compassionate and patient-focused attitude. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • Proficiency in completing blood draws and processing labs  

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND/OR TRAINING: 

  • High school graduate or GED  
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Diploma program from an accredited educational institute. 
  • Medical Assistant Certificate preferred, not required. 
  • 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant or related position in an outpatient clinic/medical office setting is preferred. 
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPR certification preferred.  

PHYSICAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS: 

This position involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, performance of precise tasks like drawing blood and administering medications, and occasionally, lifting of up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and acute hearing are essential for reading charts and monitoring patients. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are critical, especially under stress. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive tasks are also required, along with sensitivity to patient needs and environmental changes.
