Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced and caring Medical Assistant LEAD with excellent clinical and customer service skills to work full-time at our West Hollywood health center. Intermediate level position responsible for all supporting functions in the delivery of reproductive health care services.  Performs all Medical Assistant front and back office functions.  Assist patients by providing testing, screening, and education required for the provision of medical reproductive health care and to provide non-judgmental, empathetic education and communication on options for patients, as required.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited institution required
  • Medical Assistant Certification or LVN preferred
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in reproductive health, primary/managed care, and/or surgical services
  • Venipuncture and injection training to be completed within 30 days of hire
  • Reproductive health care experience desirable
  • Knowledge of ambulatory or surgical services preferred
  • Ability to delegate to and empower staff effectively
  • Team builder and ability to utilize team skills effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail essential
  • Ability to relate to diverse communities
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Microsoft Office, e-mail, and keyboard skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel upon request
  • A reliable and flexible means of transportation
  • Position may also require bilingual skills
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as required
  • Ability to travel to other health centers as requested by Health Center Supervisor/Center Manager
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Los Angeles County.
  • Reliable means of transportation for onsite and off-site work.
  • If using a personal vehicle to drive for work purposes, a valid CA driver license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.

About this position:

  • Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations and by all PPLA employees, and supporting these critical services is an essential job duty and fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors.
  • Work closely in conjunction with the Health Center Supervisor and/or Center Manager as follows:
  • Perform all Medical Assistant duties as needed per the applicable Medical Assistant job description
  • Assume the role of Administrator in the absence of Supervisor
  • Assure health center’s compliance with Agency, state and federal regulations, by monitoring protocol compliance and service delivery
  • Participate in the coordination and training of staff on front and back office duties, including but not limited to: Pre-registration, Pre-admission, Insurance verification, Pre-certification, Collections of co-pays and deductibles, Billing, Patient intake, Patient procedures, Emergency procedures, Lab Duties, Infection control, and Surgical duties
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws in the absence of the Health Center Supervisor. Responsibilities include training employees: planning, assigning and directing work and effectively managing health center flow
  • Responsible for ensuring that health center is in compliance with established performance metrics, including but not limited to dashboard metrics
  • Collaborate with health center staff and Supervisor to maintain effective communication on work flow, new initiatives, campaign letters, incident reports and others as assigned
  • Complete Affiliates Risk Management Services (ARMS) report(s) in a timely manner
  • Complete Waste Management Tracker Report
  • Assist in implementing additional services and training of staff as required
  • Complete and submit center day sheets
  • Keep current on relevant anatomy and physiology, methods of contraception, STIs, pregnancy, adoption, early prenatal care, community resources, agency protocols, referral procedures, and all Planned Parenthood programs initiatives and communications
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Health Center Supervisor and/or Center Manager
