Mechanical Engineering Lab Manager

Primary Function of Position 
The Systems Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for the design and development of highly complex capital equipment for use in surgery. The Mechanical Engineering Lab Manager is responsible for managing the R&D lab, which is used for the development, evaluation, and verification of new and existing product. As lab manager, you will own the lab infrastructure, equipment, supplies, training, and safety.

Essential Job Duties

• Oversee the daily activities of the lab, including maintenance, supplies, and safety.
• Manage lab layout by moving tools, equipment, and inventory as required for optimum performance.
• Own lab equipment organization, maintenance, calibration schedule, and borrowing system.
• Ensure lab users have proper safety and equipment training and enforce lab guidelines.
• Be the point-of-contact for engineering lab-related activities. Procure material for engineering needs and track inventory of supplies.
• Coordinate with facilities, building contractors, and vendors for lab maintenance and any repairs/renovation are performed in a timely manner.
• Contribute to budget proposals for new equipment.
• Assist with prototype builds and coordinate product verification testing. Provide general lab support as needed.

Required Education and Training 

• Minimum College degree or its equivalent in a technical or vocational training is preferred and minimum 5+ years of relevant experience.

Working Conditions 

• Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Preferred Skills and Experience 

• Experience in lab design and set-up
• Experience in 3D CAD modeling and machining
