Ouster is hiring a

Mechanical Engineering Intern

San Francisco, United States
Internship
At Ouster, we build sensors and tools for engineers, roboticists, and researchers, so they can make the world safer and more efficient. We've transformed LIDAR from an analog device with thousands of components to an elegant digital device powered by one chip-scale laser array and one CMOS sensor. The result is a full range of high-resolution LIDAR sensors that deliver superior imaging at a dramatically lower price. Our advanced sensor hardware and vision algorithms are used in autonomous cars, drones and many other applications. If you’re motivated by solving big problems, we’re hiring key roles across the company and need your help!

As a Mechanical Engineering intern, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and develop mechanical systems for our advanced LIDAR sensors. This internship will provide hands-on experience in areas such as product design, testing, and integration, allowing you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the hardware engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to verify and improve upcoming sensor designs.
  • Prototype, test, and debug with cross-functional teams to drive design enhancements.
  • Contribute to the development of test requirements, including plans, protocols, and reports.
  • Execute tests, collect and analyze data to inform internal design decisions and improvements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing or possessing a degree (MS, BS) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Practical hands-on work in mechanical design or product development projects.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, injection molding, and 3D printing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative startup-like environment.

We acknowledge the confidence gap at Ouster. You do not need to meet all of these
requirements to be the ideal candidate for this role.
