The Mechanical Engineer is an integral operational role in Syntegon’s success in leading the world’s packaging technologies. The Engineers are developing configurable platforms and functions, design custom equipment and create interfaces to third party equipment in order to solve our customer’s application needs. This is a fast pace, dynamic and team centric work environment that requires self-motivation and independence paired with empowerment to be impactful for the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Design standard and custom orders while meeting customer requirements, cost, and schedule targets.
- Create assembly and part models, drawings, bills of materials and machine specifications.
- Support testing custom designs (ETO) on the shop floor and process engineering change notices.
- Responsible for function and performance of the mechanical design of our equipment.
- Participate in systematic design reviews on customer orders and/or development projects.
- Improve standardization and modularization of our platforms to reduce production and equipment costs and to support souring strategies.
- Perform load calculations for sizing servo-drive and pneumatic-actuator components.
- Perform technical calculations in the areas of strength of materials, kinematics, kinetics, heat flow and vacuum flow.
- Visit customer sites to experience application challenges and to connect with customers.
- Work in an interdisciplinary team including project management, sales, sales engineering, software and electrical engineering, purchasing, assembly, parts fabrication and services and providing the technical support and guidance.
- Identify product and engineering process improvement opportunities, lead and participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain compliance with Syntegon company policies, quality standards and industry safety standards.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline
- Must have a minimum of 1+ year design experience with 3D parametric CAD systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred.
- Strong solid-modeling skills, preferably in SolidWorks.
- Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment that involves machinery is a plus.
- Ability to apply industrial design standards relevant to automated packaging machinery.
- Ability to apply machinery safety standards and conduct machine risk assessments.
- Knowledge of hygienic design as it relates to equipment going into the food industry.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of electrical power distribution and controls.
- Ability to thrive in a self-directed team environment; leads, contributes, and participates in cross-functional teams, ensures an environment that fosters collaboration, effective working relationships with and across groups.
- Represent the company in a professional manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, from production to management.
- Possess a strong customer service focus.

Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience. At Syntegon compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total rewards at Syntegon include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.
The expected compensation range for this position is between $65,800.00 to $82,000.00 based on a full-time schedule.
