At AHEAD Foundry, the Mechanical Design Engineer brings a blend of creative and technical expertise to the team that designs custom compute-based products. The role is responsible for taking designs from concept to mass production. A successful Mechanical Design Engineer collaborates with customers, internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
Responsibilities
- A variety of industrial and mechanical design tasks ranging from server faceplates, rack mount computer chassis, small form factor computer enclosures, brackets to more advanced projects like an AI cart.
- Conceptualization of component designs.
- Managing design reviews, DFM reviews and feasibility reviews, cost estimates, effectiveness and safety of new designs.
- Conducting design verification and validation of design components.
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, and implement solutions.
- Upkeeping design library and researching new technologies to enhance our design portfolio.
- Responsibility for maintaining document control - revisions and change management.
- Working with manufacturing vendors and other team members in delivering quality products.
- Managing projects to timelines and ensuring delivery within design date promises.
- Quoting design services, tooling, prototypes and estimated production per piece costs.
- Assisting in quality root cause analysis when dealing with custom design components.
- Value Analysis and Value Engineering cost reduction.
- Support technical reviews with customers and manufacturing team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or equivalent related work experience.
- Experience in sheet metal design.
- Experience in plastic design.
- Demonstrated proficiency with CAD based software such as SolidWorks.
- Desire to work in a customer-focused environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify root cause issues and provide recommendations.
- Familiarity with mechanical and industrial best practices.
- Experience in computer and IT industry is preferable.
- Experience with designing products that have EMI/EMC emission requirements.
- Proven ability to work within design revision control environment.
- Proven ability to identify potential design issues and risks.
- Self-motivated to learn new technologies.
- Clear and direct communications skills including written, verbal and face-to-face.
- Passion for seeing projects through to completion.
- Ability to build rapport and maintain solid supplier relationships.
