SUMMARY
Material handler verifies the accuracy of incoming shipments and orders; compares identifying information with the packing list, bills of lading; verifies that materials received are as ordered; stage incoming items within the company as directed; prepares items for shipment and maintains related records by performing the following duties to quality and productivity standards.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
·         Reads pick list to determine items to be selected and pulled from stock.
·         Picks production order materials from appropriate stock locations in accordance with the order on the pick list and conveys parts from stock location to staging area.
·         Examines outgoing shipment to ensure shipment meets specifications.
·         Assembles cardboard or crating containers and inserts items into containers using appropriate packing materials to minimize damage during shipping.
·         Processes nightly open pick tickets.
·         Signs for shipments delivered by carriers, noting visible damages on bill of lading.
·         Opens crates and containers and unpacks, counts, sorts and examines incoming shipments to verify receipt of items against packing slip.
·         Compares part numbers and descriptions against packing slip.
·         Advises purchasing manager of any discrepancies in shipment received, such as incorrect quantity, different part number, etc.
·         Rejects damaged items and advises Purchasing.
·         Stores parts in designated stock locations according to identifying information such as picking tickets.
·         Maintains inventory of shipping and receiving materials and supplies.
·         Operates forklift, lift trucks or hand trucks to move shipments from shipping and receiving to proper departments or work areas.
·         Maintains clean and organized work area ensuring aisles, doorways, fire extinguishers, breaker boxes, etc. are clear from debris and equipment.
·         Communicates with co-workers, management, customers and others in a professional and courteous manner.
·         Conforms with all safety rules and uses appropriate safety equipment, if any.
 
Work Environment
This job operates in a warehouse-type environment where the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The temperature is usually moderate, however, the employee may occasionally be exposed to extreme cold and heat.  This role routinely uses standard shipping equipment such as scales, computers and foam machine; band cutters, drills, power saws or other hand tools; and forklifts.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle spare parts, assemble shipping containers and utilize computer.  The employee is regularly required to talk or hear; stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional overtime work may be required as job duties demand.
