IKEA is seeking one Master thesis student to answer the following research questions:
Based on growing stock inventory data from public data sources and databases, and overlaying with future wood supply availability, what is the evolution of aboveground net biogenic land-related emissions/removals associated with IKEAs wood sourcing expected until 2050?
What land management activities could increase the land-based removals and include them in the tool’s scenario analysis?
The deliverables are:
Literature review on what land management activities could increase the land-based removals and include them in the tool’s scenario analysis.Analysis of the evolution of aboveground net biogenic land-related emissions/removals associated with IKEAs wood sourcing expected until 2050, in alignment with its sourcing strategy and wood material direction.
Excel tool that allows for different inputs and scenario analysis (with parameters as e.g. countries/regions, wood consumption, shift to recycled material, etc.).
Our candidate student should have:
A background in forestry, ecosystem science or environmental sciences
A passion for sustainability and climate-related topics
