Workman Publishing is seeking a talented and energetic designer to join its Creative Services team. This individual will be responsible for the design of materials used in the promotion and marketing of our books, calendars, and other products, and will include sell sheets, brochures, ads, catalogs, digital banners, Amazon + pages, and a whole range of other visual assets. Additionally, we’re looking for an individual who is a competent photographer who can take product shots and short videos to use in online marketing and other areas.
essential duties and responsibilities:
• Collaborate closely with the creative services’ executive director, and the clients—which can include publishers, associate publishers, marketers and salespeople—to create and deliver high-quality materials and content, digital and print
• Understand and satisfy the balance of creating compelling, fresh design with the need to sell
• Shoot product shots (photos and short videos) for social media
• Have the aaHavbility to work quickly, manage multiple projects, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where large and small jobs are happening in quick succession
• Work closely with the creative services Operations Manager on scheduling, meeting deadlines, and ensuring that all finished jobs are in the proper form to be delivered
• Ensure all jobs and visual assets are uploaded into proprietary database and archived appropriately
knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
• Minimum 3-5 years professional experience in graphic design, preferably in book or magazine publishing or advertising and marketing
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
• Proficient with photography to take product shots and short product videos
• Good communication skills, verbal and written
• Strong attention to time management, follow-up, and follow-through
• Creative problem-solving, with an ability to both take direction yet maintain intuition and push projects forward design-wise—to show us something new, yet effective
• Team-player—this is a collaborative position, and you will be working with a variety of different people across the company
• Though not required, basic video and animation skills are welcome
This is a NYC based position. Please note our current hybrid model is two days per week in the office. Effective in January 2025, HBG’s hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

The compensation for this position is $65,000-70,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
