Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager (MEM) will lead a team to develop and implement manufacturing technologies, processes and equipment strategies that achieve company objectives. This key resource will provide leadership for the manufacturing engineering team fostering innovation to fully leverage existing expertise and capital equipment in our scale-up manufacturing processes. The MEM will actively utilize continuous improvement philosophies and techniques (e.g. lean enterprise, six sigma). The position requires a person who is self-motivated, not afraid to roll up their sleeves, natural at trouble-shooting collaboratively and capable of prioritizing work and multi-tasking.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and mentor the cross-functional engineering team to develop best practices in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving all types of process/production issues.
- Demonstrate, teach, and apply principles of engineering, technical problem solving, and reporting of technical developments.
- Develop and implements methods, processes, and procedures that will improve processes, eliminate failures and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Develop and communicate strategic goals aligned with company objectives and translate them into specific performance objectives, action plans, and metrics.
- Coordinate and develop engineering team members while remaining an active contributor in technical areas.
- Accountable for attaining engineering team and company objectives as well as establishing and controlling departmental resource requirements and budgets.
- Develop, establish and maintain work procedures, standards of workmanship and reporting formats for each process area.
- Lead and support efforts to identify and eliminate non-value-added operations and improve manufacturing effectiveness and efficiency.
- Drive a data-driven decision-making culture based on the principles of 5S, 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. Review statistical data on business performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with automation of current processes to control cost, drive consistency, to meet demand.
- Develop workplans & projects with a focus on quality, delivery and cost.
- Promote a workplace that has commitment to safety, health, and environmental compliance; and encourages employee involvement in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assess self and staff abilities via our performance review program, determines training needs, and suggests appropriate training programs.
- Monitor technical advancements within EnPower as well as outside the organization that could potentially impact processes or products.
- Participate in customer and supplier technical problem-solving as circumstances require.
- Work cooperatively with other departments to ensure that engineering objectives and day-to-day activities are supporting the organization’s needs.
- Provide leadership for process, product and equipment cost analysis that contribute to improved performance.
- 5+ years of people management and manufacturing engineering/production experience;
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical specialization preferred); Master's degree is a plus.
- Proficiency in manufacturing processes and lean methodologies with strong problem-solving, and project management skills. Certified Green Belt required, Black Belt preferred.
- Experience with Lithium Ion battery manufacturing preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
