Design Engineer - Landscape Protection & Street Furniture Manufacturing.
Salary: Up to £35,000 + benefits

We’re committed to the ongoing development of new and existing product ranges, and as a result, we’re recruiting for a Design Technician to join our Landscape Protection team at our North Shields manufacturing site!

So, what's the purpose of the role?

  • To support the wider Design team department by having responsibility for the input and control of BoMs & Production Routes using the ERP system.
  • To Support the wider business and design team by receiving and interpreting design requests from multiple departments across the group. To include initial design and costing, designing a cost-effective product that is designed for manufacture, and supporting manufacturing.
  • Create specifications, BoMs, manufacturing drawings, and production routes and liaise with the procurement team or suppliers when needed.
  • Provide Engineering handovers to the manufacturing team, design jigs and fixtures required for product manufacture, and support manufacturing so that they can efficiently manufacture quality products.
  • Be responsible for receiving technical drawings & specifications and developing a design offering with manufacturing costs.
  • Specify material and estimate costs for products, considering the associated labour, equipment and materials costs.

What are the key skills/attributes for this role?
Essential:

  • Experienced in the use of MS Dynamic AX or similar ERP tools.
  • Proficient in the use of 3D CAD packages (preferably SolidWorks) to design, model and create drawings
  • Possess extensive engineering and materials knowledge.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to produce accurate and costings and associated calculations.
  • Excellent IT Skills using MS products, word, excel etc.
  • Proven problem solving ability in an engineering environment.
  • A proven track record in designing products for a cost effective and efficient manufacturing process. 

Desirable:

  • Previous Landscape product industry experience.
  • Knowledge of PDM vault or similar for file control and storage applications.
  • Use of 2D CAD packages (preferably AutoCAD) to review and edit drawings.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of MS packages.
  • An understanding of fabrication tooling and handling.
  • Understanding of project management, margins and delivery.
  • Understanding of logistic constraints.
  • Knowledge of Landscape Protection products
  • Familiarity with relevant standards, including PAS68 and IWA14-1
