Managing Editor (Viator) (Remote)

Viator, a Tripadvisor company and the world’s largest experiences marketplace, is searching for an experienced Managing Editor to oversee content production for Viator.com.

This full-time position, which reports into the Director of Content Strategy and requires close collaboration with Viator’s vertical-specific editors, is ideal for a candidate who has experience managing content production at scale.

Viator’s next managing editor brings with them an extensive network of travel writers and editors, impeccable writing and editing skills, and several years of experience managing and sustainably optimizing content operations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage a publication schedule for all editorial and site content projects, including but not limited to tour and activity pages; group, category, and destination pages; thematic landing pages; and article pages.
  • Oversee the hiring, onboarding, training, and availability of in-house and freelance writers and editors.
  • Collaborate with Viator’s in-house editors to allocate and scale resources based on budget, team requirements, and business priorities.
  • Submit annual content budget, with ongoing tracking and maintenance, including monthly invoice approvals.
  • Troubleshoot workflows, which exist across Salesforce, Google suite, and Slack, and optimize production to enable the continued sustainable growth of Viator’s content operations.
  • Respond to content requests related to business-critical projects, including but not limited to sales initiatives, CRM campaigns, and PR requests.
  • Play an active role in ensuring editors and writers adhere to and uphold Viator’s mission, vision, and tone and voice.
  • Hold expert-level knowledge of company and product-level messaging. 
  • Work across time zones to communicate with team members around the globe.
  • Comply with media law and ethical guidelines.

 

Job requirements

  • 6–8 years in an editor role, preferably in digital publishing working with fellow editors and stakeholders at senior levels.
  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading a team of writers and editors.
  • Fluent in both American English and AP style.
  • Project manager approach to content, including project scoping and planning; resource allocation and management; and on-time, to-budget delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and pivot between a variety of projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience working with Salesforce, custom CMS, or other relevant web-based tracking and content-entry systems.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and experience using Tableau or a similar data analytics platform to generate data-driven story concepts.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with other teams and build strategic working relationships.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, and a familiarity with SEO best practices.
  • Razor-sharp self-management and organizational skills.
  • Experience working for an e-commerce travel company preferred, but a love of travel is essential.

The base salary range for this role is $160,000-$200,000 This is the lowest to highest  salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. An employee’s pay position within the wage range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. This compensation range may also be modified in the future.
