Overview

8 Rivers is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Controls Manager with a proven track record in successfully managing teams for construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and leading a team in all aspects of project controls, including scheduling, cost management, risk management, and reporting. This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels. The Project Controls Manager will play a critical role in ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications. This role will report to the VP, Project Management. 

Responsibilities

  • Schedule Management:
    • Develop and maintain project schedules using industry-standard software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
    • Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and up-to-date schedule information.
    • Monitor progress against the schedule and identify potential delays or conflicts.
    • Implement strategies to mitigate schedule risks and optimize project timelines.
  • Cost Management:
    • Develop project budgets and cost estimates in collaboration with project managers and financial stakeholders.
    • Track project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses.
    • Analyze cost variances and identify areas for cost-saving opportunities.
    • Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for project stakeholders.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and assess project risks related to schedule, cost, scope, and quality.
    • Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize project disruptions.
    • Monitor and update risk registers throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Communicate risk status and mitigation plans to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of project controls professionals, providing guidance and support in their day-to-day activities.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing.
    • Delegate responsibilities and tasks to team members based on their strengths and expertise.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback for professional development.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare comprehensive project controls reports for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Communicate project status, milestones, and performance metrics through written reports and presentations.
    • Maintain accurate project documentation, including schedules, budgets, change orders, and approvals.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies related to project controls.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to coordinate project activities and resolve issues.
    • Provide regular updates and presentations to project sponsors and executive leadership.
    • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among cross-functional project teams.
    • Address stakeholder inquiries and concerns related to project controls and performance.

Essential Skillset, Education/Qualification, Certification Attainment

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in project controls or construction management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a lead with related experience in the energy industry, petrochemical, industrial gases, oil and gas, nuclear, chemicals, or related sector.
  • Experience managing and leading a team of project controls professionals.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of construction industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credentials preferred.
