Objective:
The Manager, Patient Recruitment and Screening will oversee the patient recruitment and screening teams and set the strategy for how patients are screened and recruited across the portfolio of clinical research trials. This role will be the primary point of contact about patient recruitment and screening for CROs/Sponsors and will report directly to the Director of Clinical Research Operations.
Supervisory Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage team conducting patient recruitment calls (preparation, conduct and follow-up)
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and supervise the day-to-day activities of the team.
- Monitor performance and provide coaching for improvement and career development.
- Ensure the team adherence to SOPs, processes, system utilization and study protocols.
- Provide training for new hires and ongoing compliance with role specific training matrix.
- Oversee the patient recruitment strategy and implementation.
- Develop and revise study specific patient recruitment plans in alignment with overall disease prevalence/needs and sponsor specific strategies
- Attend site initiation visits to gain full understanding of patient recruitment needs for study and develop relationship with sponsor
- Lead patient recruitment meetings with sponsors to discuss status, challenges and opportunities.
- Oversee patient recruitment activities between providers, screening teammates and clinical research coordinators
- Manage team conducting pre-screening and screening activities
- Direct actions for Lead Screener and Screening team and delegates tasks and duties as deemed necessary for an effective and timely patient screening process
- Effectively prioritize study-level patient screening to achieve business objectives
- Communicate effectively and collaboratively with physicians, patients, and other Clinical Research personnel regarding patient eligibility and study requirements
- Identify process improvements and works across functions to implement efficient process
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and applicable law
- Oversee consistent, organized data collection through pre-screening
- Collaborate with cross function team throughout pre-screening to facilitate patient enrollment
- Ensure effective communication with providers and investigators regarding potential trials applicable to their patients
- Manage strategic relationship with external partners providing patient pre-screening and clinical trial matching services as well as oversee implementation of their services into the day-to-day operations of the screening team.
- Attend any required training, management meetings and/or travel to face-to-face meetings (10% estimated travel).
- Perform any other duties assigned by the management team.
Education and Experience:
- Seven or more (7+) years of clinical research experience
- One to two (1-2) years of leadership experience
- Five (5) years patient recruitment/screening experience
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, staff and other study personnel
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, strong computer skills
- Organized with attention to detail and proficiency in administrative tasks
- Thorough understanding of ICH/GCP guidelines, regulations and clinical trial process, including patient recruitment best practices and strategy
- Knowledge of Hematology/Oncology
- Medical background preferred
- Experience building teams and department organizational structure and processes
