Venture Global LNG (“Venture Global”) is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company’s two Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.

We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Marine HSSE Manager, based in Houston.

General Description:

 The Marine HSSE Manager will provide oversight of marine HSSE, providing guidance and working with VG Marine HSSE Supervisors at each terminal to develop and maintain marine safety and security standards. They will work closely with both the safety, security and environmental teams as well as Venture Global Ship Management and 3rd party Stakeholders.

The Marine HSSE Manager will add value to VG and shall provide support to marine operations on a daily basis, providing SME advice and support the development and execution of contracts and inspections.

This position reports directly to the Sr. Director, Marine Operations for Venture Global, while working very closely with the Vice President HSSE.

Marine HSSE Responsibilities:

  • Provide marine HSSE oversight and support to Venture Global and the LNG terminals.
  • Develop marine HSSE procedures and processes in conjunction with VG HSSE policy.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the VG HSSE department to identify any potential deviations from VG HSSE standards and to provide guidance and support for the effective implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support the Head of HSSE in ensuring that safety management system is effectively implemented, understood, maintained, and continuously improved and remains in compliance with, and certified by, recognized authorities. 
  • Support the development of marine training, including supporting contractors and other 3rd parties working with VG.
  • Lead marine incident investigations, the close-out of non-conformities, action items and other audit findings.
  • Liaise with LNG tanker operators during incident investigations, provide reports and feedback, sharing findings and closing out action items.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, standards and best practice related to the Maritime Industry.
  • Work with the crisis management team to develop and implement a marine response plan.
  • Liaise with VG Ship Management to develop processes and procedures consistent with VG policy and maintaining VG safety standards.
  • Assist in completing LNG terminal audits as per OCIMF MTSA guidelines.
  • Build and maintain relationships with marine vendors, including marine service vendors, line handing vendors, etc., involved in and supporting marine operations.
  • Work with marine personnel to ensure safe, reliable, cost effective and environmentally responsible cargo transfer operations.
  • A working knowledge of auditing, safety systems, risk analysis, emergency response, incident command, incident investigation, safe working practices, international maritime regulations, including flag state, and classification society regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or associated degree in engineering, marine or other relevant technical discipline or acceptable equivalent work experience. PTEC degree preferred or relevant process experience.
  • Merchant Marine Officer Experience, either deck or engineer

Experience: 

  • Ten (10) to Fifteen (15) years’ experience in marine industry, LNG tanker and terminal operations is preferred, 
  • Experience working on oil and gas tanker is preferrable.
  • Experience working in an oil/ gas terminal is required, experience of LNG terminals, is preferable. 
  • Have an in-depth knowledge regarding marine HSSE, including Federal and State regulations, as well as OCIMF and SIGTTO guidelines and the marine assurance process when dealing with buyers, ship operators and other Stakeholders.

Skills: 

  • Strong leadership and administrative abilities are required.
  • An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries and governmental agencies. 
  • Able to work with a culturally diverse group of technical individuals whose skills cover the range required to operate and maintain the LNG terminal and Liquefaction production facilities.
  • Organized, planning skills, able to manage multiple activities and programs in timely fashion and with a high degree of accuracy, able to meet work deadlines.  
  • Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.

Work Conditions:

  • Job is performed in an office and industrial plant environment.  
  • Approximately 50% of the time will be spent in Houston and 50% between VG’s Calcasieu Pass LNG terminal and Plaquemines LNG terminal.
  • National and international travel can be expected.
  • Must be able to board an LNG tanker ship via gangway and/or Pilot ladder.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors & outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise.
