Primary function of the position:
The Manager NPI Manufacturing Engineering will lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers, who are responsible for implementing, validating and sustaining manufacturing processes.
This management role will guide and mentor the Process Engineering organization responsible for above listed tasks, for new manufacturing line installations as well as for projects in the sustaining phase. It will make sure that tasks in the team are split between resources in order to achieve best results, effective and efficient.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers, in collaboration with other organizations, to:
- Develop and document manufacturing processes for new product implementations, as well as for necessary changes on existing products/ processes. Typical fields of activities are gluing, potting, welding, soldering / brazing processes, and assembly as well as test processes
- Define and execute DOE’s where applicable.
- Define test procedures to make sure the processes fulfill the requirements
- Support Fixture & Automation Engineers with documenting equipment
- Maintain and improve specifications and qualification documents for individual processes
- Collaborate in continuous improvement projects to support plant objectives of safety, cost, quality, and service.
- Ensure cost, schedule and quality requirements are fulfilled and maintained
- Perform failure analysis and root cause investigation of product / process failures
- Lead sub projects, like line transfers and duplications, within new product development or sustaining projects
- Contribute to plan, budget and staffing of projects
- Manage team resources over multiple tasks and projects
- Mentor and train employees, performance management, expectations and goals setting
- Collaboration with stakeholders in different regions
- Maintain compliance with the current QMS, DOPs and SOPs and the safety regulations
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- ME/MS degree in engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Electronic Engineering)
- Minimum 8 years of experience in process or product development, at 1-3 years experience in successfully managing a team of manufacturing or process engineers
- Experience in medical device development and manufacturing environment preferred
- Capability to lead other engineers and help them to improve their skills
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire an engineering team
- Independent and efficient work style, versatility and flexibility, and multicultural competence
- Proactive, innovative
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally across a range of technical disciplines, with other departments, stakeholders, and management
- Process development skills including (p)FMEA, tolerance analysis, DoE, SPC, GR&R and DFM/DFA
- Strong experience in validation of processes, equipment and products
- Strong work ethic and a demonstrated desire to learn complemented with strong people skills.
- Skill / experience in manufacturing processes, strong process-oriented thinking
- Microsoft Office knowledge
- Quantitative approach to problem solving
- Willingness to travel international (up to approx. 10% per year)
- Excellent written and spoken English language skills
