What You’ll Do:

 The Manager of Data Engineering will play a critical role within the IT/IS Department. Data Engineers at Curaleaf collaborate with business and data analytics teams to design, build, and scale high-leverage datasets that enable analytics, modeling, and experimentation. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will establish and drive a vision for data architecture and data quality across multiple company verticals. The scope of work for this role includes analysis of data structure design, Data pipeline development and Production support. You will be primarily responsible for global organization, technical direction, maintaining artifact, documentation standards, ensuring that operational support services levels are established and followed, and to maintain best in class services and communications with clients are established and maintained. Our teams will be small, but experienced and this role will sit at the epicenter of building and managing a data warehouse, supporting custom application data designs, and developing best practices around data governance.

  •  Help create and maintain an engineering culture that embraces diversity and fosters trust and innovation in teams
  • Develop and execute a roadmap to build and optimize foundational datasets to ensure delivery of high-quality data across multiple company verticals
  • End-to-end ownership of a data engineering team, including gathering inputs from leadership and partner teams, roadmap planning and prioritization, promoting best practices, and mentoring and developing the DE Team.
  • Inform architectural decisions, establish best practices, develop lean scalable processes with Data Quality, and contribute to the overall direction of the data organization at Curaleaf
  • Advise on the architecture and development of the data warehouse and reporting-based solutions currently in use.
  • Support the technical evaluation of business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Be an active participant in Sprint rituals and help tweak processes in driving execution efficiency
  • Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating performance, systems monitoring, and environment applications
  • Establish a collaborative culture that thrives on innovation and impact.
  • Work with the Infosec, Compliance and Development partners, both internal and external, on developing in and maintaining HIPAA, PII Compliant systems

What You’ll Bring:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field with 8+ years of relevant professional experience in the data engineering field
  • 5+ years of experience using analytics SQL, working with modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure Cloud Platform
  • 2+ years experience as a data engineering manager and have successfully managed multiple individual contributors
  • 4+ years of experience in developing robust data models based off of structured and unstructured sources at massive scale
  • Minimum 4 years development experience using Matillion and DBT tools.
  • Project Management experience
  • Expertise with programming languages commonly used in data engineering such as Python, R
  • Insightful understanding of data pipeline design and architecture methodologies.
  • An ability to explain complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways and navigate environments where problems are not well-defined (and evolve quickly)
  • Experience leveraging your excellent communication skills to thrive in areas where problems are not well-defined and evolve quickly
  • Experience in proactively identifying opportunities to improve ETL and dashboard performance and cost
  • Must have a strong understanding of data modeling, data lakes, data-driven insight, data quality, and governance
  • Experience in hands-on design, prototyping, development, configurations, testing, and other implementation activities
  • A desire to work with amazing, passionate people who care deeply about solving challenging problems to improve Curaleaf
  • Experience with reporting tools, Power – Bi, Tableau a plus.
  • Capable of incident resolution during a major incident process
  • Good time management and prioritization skills; self-starters especially welcome
  • Maturity and ability to take responsibility for gathering additional information on requirements and design to effectively establish testing for the applications and processes
  • Dedicated to excellence in quality, reliability, and thoroughness in all work tasks; detail-oriented with consistent follow-through
  • Experience on data preparation for Data Science team
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation techniques
  • Experience owning and proactively improving data models, implementing best practices, and influencing large-scale change
  • Experience with web analytics platforms (i.e., Google Analytics)
  • Experience in designing data architecture to power a variety of uses cases, including machine learning and experimentation
