WRI India, an independent charity legally registered as the India Resources Trust, provides objective information and practical proposals to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable development. WRI India’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of our generations. Through research, and recommendations, WRI India puts ideas into action to build transformative solutions to protect the earth, promote livelihoods, and enhance human well-being.
We are inspired by and associated with World Resources Institute (WRI), a global research organization. Over 150 researchers are working with WRI India in our offices at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
About the Climate Program:
At WRI India’s Climate Program, we focus on integrated solutions that can enable a low-carbon transition in India, while ensuring that the transition is equitable and just for its people and protects natural resources. Through applied research, the use of frameworks and tools, partnerships with partners and ground-level implementation, we seek to achieve impact at scale.
About your role:
The Climate Program at WRI India is seeking a dynamic candidate to advance the program’s engagement with the private sector which is aimed at catalyzing low-carbon industry growth by working on topics ranging from corporate decarbonization strategies, value chain engagement, GHG reporting and management, science-based targets, sectoral decarbonization roadmaps, just transitions and carbon pricing.
How your day will unfold:
· Build and nurture engagement with the industry sector in India, large corporates, industry associations, MSME associations, and other key stakeholders including government and policymakers, think tanks and educational institutions, academia and sectoral experts.
· Provide strategic inputs to the program on opportunities and levers for accelerating sustainable and inclusive low-carbon industrial growth in India, enhancing business preparedness and capacities towards low-carbon policies and trends, and supporting voluntary climate action in India.
· Build projects, develop them to achieve the desired outcomes outlined above with impact at scale.
· Conduct in-depth primary and secondary research, with quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform policies and actions needed for advancing industrial decarbonization and addressing barriers to decarbonization.
· Facilitate impactful dialogues, convenings, workshops, roundtables and events with partners.
· Lead coordination and dissemination of capacity-building activities
· Write compelling research products, articles, and blogs, and provide research and content development support, as needed.
· Keep abreast of industry and technology trends, policy and financing landscape and sectoral developments.
· Perform other tasks as needed towards achieving the Climate Program’s vision.
Qualifications and skills we seek:
· Postgraduate degree/ master’s degree in engineering, economics, management, science, technology, or public policy
· 7-10 Years of cross-sectoral industry or consulting experience in climate change, sustainability and industrial decarbonization
· Demonstrated experience in GHG accounting, target setting, climate scenario analysis, financial/cost-benefit analysis, corporate sustainability reporting and ESG disclosures, and development of corporate sustainability strategy.
· Experience working on Science Based Targets, internal carbon pricing and value-chain decarbonization are desirable.
· Knowledge of the domestic and international climate policy and business climate action landscape, issues and trends.
· Knowledge of important technological interventions needed for deep decarbonization, especially in hard-to-abate sectors, along with an understanding of barriers and challenges in adoption.
· Experience working with and coordinating across multiple partners.
· Passion for change and high impact in corporate climate action and industrial decarbonization.
· Collaborative, respectful and responsible
· Fluency in English is essential and fluency in regional languages.
Salary and Benefits: INR 1500000-1800000
Duration: 1 year (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
Location: Mumbai/New Delhi
