Job Summary 

GLG is seeking highly motivated, skilled professional to join our in-house tax Team and oversee support for GC business leaders to administer Accounting Operations in mainland China and Hong Kong. This individual will be a critical member of the Tax and Accounting team, responsible for day-to-day operations of multiple Chinese entities, including the accuracy and timeliness of compliance and tax reporting matters. The role will oversee a local junior resource and teams of all local third-party service providers.  

This individual will be a business operation partner to our Global Accounting tam and GC Leadership and a contributor to driving excellent accounting capabilities by working with local Finance, operation team, facilities, legal, human resources and global mobility. This role will report to SVP, Global Controller.  

The role involves significant exposure to and interaction with key business stakeholders and requires the candidate to demonstrate exceptional business acumen, maturity and relationship-building potential. We are seeking a motivated self-starting leader with excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and communications skills. The ideal candidate will be able to create and drive his/her own agenda to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements while demonstrating an independent, inquisitive, can-do, get-things-done attitude. 

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Design, execute and maintain control systems, policies, and processes to guarantee the reliability and security of accounting services and records; 
  • Compute monthly transfer pricing for Chinese entities, including coordination with the US Accounting team to record entries, raise tax compliant invoices and support regulatory requirements to settle invoices with tax authorities and relevant banks (i.e., filing withholding VAT forms, foreign remittance forms when applicable, etc.). This includes reimbursement for expenses paid on behalf of Chinese entities by overseas entities as well as computation of VAT on applicable activities;  
  • Support activities required to register intercompany agreements with relevant tax authorities; 
  • Support US team with oversight of local teams’ adherence to policies set by parent entity to ensure alignment with transfer pricing model; 
  • Liaison with third-party consultant to prepare quarterly reconciliations between U.S. GAAP and PRC GAAP;  
  • Review and reconcile monthly filings, including VAT, as prepared by third-party consultants; 
  • Liaison with third-party auditor to complete annual audit of financial statements for Chinese entities;  
  • Prepare annual transfer pricing based on PRC GAAP and ensure appropriate funding and settlement, as needed;  
  • Prepare annual income tax provision as an input into the consolidated financial statements, including provision to return differences, tie-out of deferred tax balances, reconciliation of taxes payable, preparation of journal entries and input into uncertain tax positions; 
  • Prepare periodic account reconciliations for tax related balance sheet accounts; 
  • Support regulatory requirements related to repatriation of funds to overseas entity(ies);  
  • Oversee preparation, ensure accuracy and timely submission of VAT returns, estimated tax payments, corporate income tax returns, related party transaction reporting and transfer pricing reporting (i.e., local and master files); 
  • Liaison with local legal resources on ad hoc business issues, including audits; 
  • Provide technical advice to back-office groups on local laws and regulatory requirements (e.g., Global Benefits, Global Mobility, etc.);  
  • Partner with back-office groups and APAC management to monitor travel into China to ensure compliance with local regulations;  
  • Serve as the person in charge of finance for all China entities and facilitate timely communications with the relevant tax bureaus as required; 
  • Oversee relationships and liaison with relevant teams of third-party consultants, auditors and local banks for accounting and tax related matters. This includes responsibility for changes or updates to information of bank signatories for local banks; 
  • Manage collection of Fapiaos from each department/vendor, matching to invoices from Accounting. This includes annual IIT filing follow up.  
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments and communicate the impact of those developments; 
  • Manage a Senior Accountant responsible for processing and internally reporting on Greater China AR  
  • Support tax related client requests, as needed (e.g., request for Certificate of Residency, VAT exemption application, etc.) 
  • Assist in other general Tax and Accounting projects, as needed. 

An ideal candidate possesses the following: 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Tax/Accounting experience is required; 
  • CPA license is required; 
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese, both written and verbal is required;  
  • Experience working with multinational enterprises is preferred; 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel;  
  • Experience in tax-related financial reporting;  
  • Exposure to transfer pricing rules;  
  • Excellent project management skills with a proactive approach towards driving quality results;  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate collaboration with key stakeholders across the organization;  
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment with a small team; 
  • Strong attention to detail to drive excellence;  
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team.
