The role

The Management Accountant will be responsible for producing accurate and timely management reporting, whilst ensuring comprehensive analysis and support to key stakeholders across Operational Finance and FP&A. The role also includes responsibility for key accounting and tax compliance, including VAT returns and liaising directly with our external auditors, along with assisting with ongoing process and systems improvements as the business continues to scale and evolve.

Given the fast paced and dynamic nature of Motorway, this role requires a self-starter with strong skills in prioritisation, communication and cross-functional stakeholder management.

This role will report directly to our Head of Operational Finance.

We are keen to hear from qualified finance professionals (or equivalent) - or soon to be qualified - who are making a first move from practice and feel ready for a varied role within a forward thinking business. Alternatively those who have relevant industry experience working within a finance function to date within a management accounting capacity would also be relevant here. Backgrounds from all sectors and industries will be considered for the role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Full understanding and ownership of month end close process
  • Posting monthly journals 
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts including prepayments, accruals, fixed assets and payroll
  • Working closely with the Accounts Receivable Manager to reconcile multiple revenue streams to be accounted for the period
  • Preparing monthly management accounts to be presented to the Finance management team and key stakeholders
  • Assisting the FP&A team with month end variance analysis
  • Completing the quarterly VAT returns and associated compliance requirements
  • Assisting with the preparation of information required for the statutory accounts
  • Responsibility for liaising with the auditors and preparing information requests for the external audit
  • Preparing information required for corporate tax and R&D calculations and liaising with external tax advisors
  • Other ad hoc responsibilities as required

Requirements

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent
  • Flexible and comfortable in a changing and growing environment 
  • Self-starter with ability to work on their own initiative 
  • High attention to detail and desire to challenge existing thinking around how we perform our work
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise workload
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact at all levels 
  • Strong proficiency of Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience with Netsuite would be desirable
