Operates the Student Mail Center by accurately processing and distributing mail and packages for all students, staff and faculty while overseeing student workers each semester.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $18.19 - $22.28 per hour.
Core Responsibilities:
- Operates the Mail Center Software to process, sort and distribute incoming mail and packages from al carriers. Forwards packages and mail of Middlebury College alumni.
- Pickups and delivers mail/packages to and from various departments and buildings on regular schedule both on and off campus.
- Performs daily pre and post trip vehicle inspections, routine maintenance, and maintains accurate records to ensure vehicles are compliant with state and federal laws and remain safe for operation.
- Provides customer service to meet needs of students, staff, and faculty, including tracking missing or mislabeled packages.
- In coordination with the Manager, develops mail procedures and prioritize department workflow during times of high traffic.
- Provides training and direction to student workers each semester.
- Represents the college as the liaison between all carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx, Amazon).
- Supports the various work groups within the Operations Department to assist with the departments work
- in a nimble, efficient, streamlined manner. Areas of work may include Custodial, Waste Management, Landscape Services, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Mail Center, Event Support, Moving and Delivery.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic computer skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office helpful.
- Must have valid driver’s license and a minimum of 2 years driving experience, and ability to obtain a Middlebury College license. A good driving record and good driving skills are required. Experience driving large vans and/or box trucks is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Able to establish and maintain working relations with students, faculty and staff.
- Able to provide excellent customer service at all times to the College’s customers – students, staff, faculty, parents, peers, and outside clients (USPS, UPS, FedEx)
- Ability to function independently, to prioritize tasks appropriately and to work well under pressure.
- Previous experience in mailroom helpful.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Physical abilities include: Frequent, lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, walking and stair /ladder climbing required. Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength. Work is performed inside and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Good attendance is very important. Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime. Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of a regular or rotating work shift and overtime as needed.
