We are looking for an experienced Machine Shop Lead to support our production team manufacturing development and production parts for our satellite launch vehicle. This is a working lead role where the employee will own value-added manufacturing operations in conjunction with providing team direction. Leads will support specific sub-sets of department operations determined by direct leadership including CNC programming, CNC Machining, Machine Shop technicians and Additive Manufacturing Operations. This role will require specific skill sets in multi-axis Mill programming and machining and a working knowledge of turning applications. Programming will be completed using Mastercam and NC files to be verified by Vericut. Parts to be machined on Haas Machining Centers. Must have the ability and eagerness to both program and machine components in addition to supporting schedule and leading the team.  This role will report directly to the Machine Shop Production Manager and will have no direct reports. 

We machine parts from both billet material and additively manufactured parts:

·        Aluminum
·        Steel
·        Stainless Steel
·        Inconel

Types of Machines:

·        Haas UMC 750 & UMC 1000
·        Haas VM3
·        Haas Router

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a safe and positive work environment, building a strong team culture of accountability, collaboration, flexibility, respect, and ownership
  • Ensure productivity and utilization remains high
  • Mentor team members in technical support by providing regular feedback and guidance
  • Supports production by removing all blockers preventing execution to the schedule and escalates schedule risks of more than 4 hours to direct leadership
  • Responsible for weekly plans of the team, assigning tasks and productivity of team remains high
  • Hands on experience with technical ability equivalent to at least a technician level 3
  • Working lead to own hardware schedule and support hands on within programmer, machinist, and technician job as required
  • Work in concert with production management on tracking and hitting Key Performance indicator (KPI) Targets
  • Work in concert with operations leadership, programmers, machinists, and engineering to develop manufacturing order of operations
  • Improve overall machine Shop capabilities to support production and development needs
  • Evaluates procedures and recommends changes and/or modifications for improved efficiency or quality
  • Document and champion design/process improvements to enhance safety, quality, and productivity
  • Responsible for on-the-job (OTJ) training of new hires
  • Accountable for station best practices, including tool management, foreign object debris (FOD) mitigation, part control, and safety protocols
  • Establish weekly goals for team and ensure day to day assignments are executed efficiently by the team to meet or exceed these.
  • Coordinate with counterparts on different shifts to ensure smooth transitions
  • Provide support for future capital expenditure (CAPEX) purchases and help coordinate external maintenance, machine repairs, and machine calibrations
  • Support with software updates and licensing requirements as needed

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2+ years of experience in leadership role
  • 5+ years of CNC Mill programming and machining experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience with GD&T
  • Experience with inspection tools and inspection processes

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and “can do” attitude.
  • Strong working knowledge of Mastercam
  • Strong working knowledge of Haas CNC Machines and Haas Controls
  • Experience owning a production schedule.
  • Experience with Vericut verification software
  • Hands on experience with metal 3D printed components.
  • Experience in aerospace, medical or automotive manufacturing.
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 and AS9100D
