Lunar Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced lunar scientist specialising in landing site selection to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team at ispace inc. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying and evaluating optimal lunar landing sites for our upcoming lunar missions. The role involves engaging with stakeholders, collaborating in research projects and contributing to advanced R & D initiatives that enhance our exploration capabilities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct lunar resource studies to find sites with specific resources with the greatest likelihoods, and how to extract them.
  • Conduct lunar environment studies to identify sites illumination and terrain shadowing, ground stability for drilling operations, slope, etc.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team tasked with selection of landing sites for optimized mission value - depending on mission objectives and payloads, and other constraints such as duration, illumination, terrain, resources to explore, etc.
  • Work on the landing site analysis of on-going missions in ispace JP (e.g. M2 and M6), which includes the evaluation of slope, boulder, and local terrain conditions within a target range.
  • Participate in the implementation of selected R&D projects, either for technology demonstration projects or for servicing customers.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze remote sensing data, lunar surface imagery and other relevant datasets to identify sites of exploration interest.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience)

  • Msc in Planetary Science, Geology, or Geoscience Related Field
  • Experience with using and analysing Lunar datasets.
  • Proficiency in GIS Software, particularly ArcGIS for spatial analysis and mapping 
  • Strong background in data analysis and interpretation of remote sensing data.
  • Proven track record of publishing scientific research and presenting at conferences.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in planetary science or related field
  • Familiarity with mission planning and operations
  • Knowledge of other relevant software such ENVI and programming languages (i.e. python) for data analysis
  • Previous involvement in international collaborative projects
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage scientific research projects
