We are seeking a skilled and experienced Linux Ubuntu Administrator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Linux Ubuntu servers. This role involves ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure, optimizing system performance, implementing security measures, and providing technical support to other teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Configuration:

  • Install and configure Ubuntu servers for various environments (development, testing, production).
  • Configure server software and applications, ensuring compatibility and performance.

System Administration:

  • Manage and maintain server environments, including performance tuning and monitoring.
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).

Security Management:

  • Implement and manage security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security audits.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures.

Troubleshooting and Support:

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for server-related issues.
  • Work with development teams to resolve application and server performance issues.
  • Respond to system outages and emergencies, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
  • Ensure data integrity and availability through regular backups and disaster recovery planning.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, security status, and other metrics.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Collaborate with other IT staff, developers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior team members and other staff on Linux administration best practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator, specifically with Ubuntu.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating system fundamentals, including system architecture, kernel, and file systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Experience in containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of network protocols and services (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
  • Knowledge of security best practices and tools (e.g., firewalls, SELinux, AppArmor).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of database management (MySQL, SQL server).
  • Certification in Linux (e.g., LPIC, RHCE).
  • Preferred candidates will also have administration experience with SUSE and RedHat

 

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with potential on-call responsibilities.
  • May require evening and weekend work to perform maintenance or respond to emergencies.
  • Remote work flexibility may be available based on company policies.
