The Bilingual Occupational Therapist provides a full range of Occupational Therapy services to children in grades K-12, including screening and assessment with appropriate methods for students in both English and Spanish (as needed), individual and group therapy, and consultation with school teams. As a member of the Individualized Education Plan team, the OT-Bilingual helps to determine student’s eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of a credentialed school nurse, the Licensed Vocational Nurse performs specialized physical health care services for students to perform a wide variety of nursing duties and maintains a healthy and safe environment for students and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform specialized physical health care services for students including suctioning, medication administration, catheterizations, drip and tube feeding administration, blood sugar testing, supporting with mobility and toileting and other specialized nursing services; operate specialized medical equipment and instruments in the assessment and treatment of individuals
- May include working 1:1 with a student in need of constant monitoring based on individual needs identified in an IEP
- May include travel to various school sites and perform a wide variety of nursing duties; assess illnesses and injuries and apply first aid as needed; assess and assist students with seizures; check for head lice, skin abnormalities and other conditions; obtain vital signs
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment for students and staff; provide information to staff, students and parents regarding safety issues, head lice, hand-washing practices, and other health-related matters
- Maintain a service log of health services as designated in the IEP.
- Prepare and maintain records, reports and doctor orders and parental consents related to assigned activities; maintain student cum files and immunization records as needed
- Respond to emergencies, evaluate condition of students and provide health instruction and care as needed
- Discuss student's health with parents and arrange for transportation as needed
- Assure cleanliness and sanitary conditions of medical instruments and offices
- Train and provide work direction to other staff and students as assigned
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required knowledge, skills & abilities
- Knowledge of District policies and State regulations concerning student immunization
- Knowledge of CA and County health and safety regulations, including HIPPA and other health privacy laws
- Knowledge of modern medical terminology, equipment and accepted medical assessment techniques
- Ability to operate specialized medical equipment, machines and instruments
- Knowledge of accepted methods and principles of personal hygiene
- Knowledge of basic diagnostic methods for medical conditions and diseases
- Knowledge of public health agencies and local health care resources
- Ability to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field
- Knowledge of contracted student transportation policies
- Ability to prioritize and schedule work independently with little direction
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and in person using tact, patience and courtesy
- Ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to establish files, records, reports and referrals and record sensitive information accurately
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student medical records
- Bilingual – Spanish preferred
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
Minimum educational level:
- High School Diploma or GED
Requirements Licenses:
- License Vocational Nurse Program

Current Valid California State license by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric technicians
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
Experience required:
- Any combination equivalent to graduation from an accredited Vocational Nurses Training program and one year related experience.
COMPENSATION:
Salary range for years of experience in the role: $35 - $56.15
