The job holder will be a key person for providing expert and strategic legal advice to management
To effectively assess and communicate Indonesia’s needs and actions to the APAC Legal Leadership Team (LT), and the APAC Legal Strategy to the Indonesian Leadership Team
Accountabilities:
To act as the first point of contact for all Syngenta teams based in Indonesia with regard to all legal and compliance matters affecting Syngenta’s business in Indonesia. This includes providing advice and working with teams on matters regarding intellectual property, procurement, customer relationships, capital investment projects, corporate structuring, ethical leadership and compliance with policies and standards of Syngenta.
To provide objective, constructive, professional, client-focused and solution-oriented legal advice and guidance to support Syngenta’s various businesses in Indonesia.
To perform specific legal activities in compliance with applicable local laws and Syngenta policies and provide specific legal support on wide range of legal areas in Indonesia and to contribute to the delivery of the strategic objectives of Syngenta Indonesia, Asia BU and AMEA.
To actively promote the strengthening of a Legal & Ethical compliance culture within Indonesia and to ensure that all activities of Syngenta are undertaken in accordance with relevant laws and the standards prescribed by the Syngenta Code of Conduct.
Active participation as a member of the Indonesia Country Leadership Team (CLT).
To maintain a good awareness of developing of laws and regulations in Indonesia which may have an impact on the business and to translate this into action for the business.
To promote and be role model for ethical leadership and work closely with the Ethical and Finance Compliance teams regarding these matters. To conduct training and investigations as required on all policies and standards owned by the Legal and Compliance functions.
Management of tools and data platforms implemented by the Legal Department for the purposes of contracts management, risk assessment, IP management, reporting, or other matters as determined by the Legal Department from time to time.
Active participation in the Asia Legal Department Team and the AMEA Legal Department Team
Management of outside counsel and external legal consultancy budgets
Minimum Bachelor of Law degree from a reputable local or overseas university. A Master’s Degree is a plus point.
Professionally qualified in Indonesia with not less than 7 (seven) years’ practical post qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable Indonesian or international law firm and/or multinational companies with knowledge of legal skills and in-house departmental practices.
Working experience outside of Indonesia will be an advantage.
Agribusiness industry experince is not compulsory but would be an advantage.
Sound knowledge of international law and legal concepts including commercial contracts, M&A, employment law, anti-trust laws, anti-corruption laws, corporate and legal compliance, IP and litigation.
Good analytical thinking skills to understand and assess legal risks within Indonesia.
Good level of negotiation and drafting skills in difficult and complex negotiations.
Good acumen in partnership with the business.
Effective communicator and with good fluency in both spoken and written Indonesian and English.
Capability to lead projects involving other professionals and/or business colleagues.
