Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel, Real Estate (Fixed Term)

IO’s Transaction Services and Corporate Legal Enterprise Team provides professional support to all parts of the agency. Lawyers within the team specialize in services that support infrastructure and commercial projects, construction, real estate and leasing, lending, privacy protection, government affairs, litigation, and contract management.

Position Overview:

As part of the Real Estate Management & Litigation Team, you will provide high-quality legal advice, research, opinions and service to internal clients on commercial real estate transactions and corporate/commercial matters, impacting the Realty Portfolio and related business lines.  

This is a contract role, ending Feb 2025.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide legal advice to Infrastructure Ontario executives and business units to support decision making
  • Ensure corporate compliance with current legislation and Infrastructure Ontario policies and procedures, and contribute to strategy development
  • Provide legal support to internal stakeholders
  • Provide litigation support to business units

What We Are Looking For:

  • 5 years experience conducting title reviews and preparing title reports
  • 5 years experience practicing law in the area of commercial real estate and/or leasing 
  • Few years' experience conducting title reviews and preparing title reports
  • University degree in Law (LLB or JD)
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Knowledge of commercial real estate, property and land management
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate complex legal issues in a clear manner to non-legal audiences
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities
  • Ability to understand business issues quickly, exercise good judgment in providing timely and practical legal advice and work effectively in a team-based environment

Level of Position: Legal (L1) $103,100 to $154,600
Candidates with up to 6 years of experience as a licensed lawyer in Ontario will be considered for a Legal Counsel (L1) position

Level of Position: Legal (L2) $118,200 to $176,800
Candidates with more than 6 years of experience as a licensed lawyer in Ontario will be considered for a Senior Legal Counsel (L2) position.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, knowledge and experience.
