As Legal Counsel, you will provide versatile legal support across various departments, focusing on contracts, intellectual property, product liability, marketing, and social media. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an emerging legal professional to broaden their skills and make a direct impact on our dynamic business operations.
This is a hybrid role. The person will be required to report to work at Hot Topic headquarters in City of Industry, California, at least two days a week.
Pay range is $120K - $135K

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Draft, negotiate, and revise a wide range of contracts, including intellectual property license agreements, NDAs, social media influencer agreements, and SaaS agreements. Ensure that all contracts align with company policies and mitigate potential risks.
- Advise on intellectual property issues, providing guidance on copyright, trademark, and right of publicity matters.
- Assist in managing our trademark portfolio, including registration and renewals.
- Advise on marketing-related legal matters, ensuring compliance with FTC guidelines, social media endorsement regulations, and advertising laws. Review and approve marketing materials to ensure they meet legal standards.
- Consult on product safety and liability to mitigate risks and uphold our standards and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Support promotional activities by drafting and reviewing terms and conditions for sweepstakes, contests, and other promotional events. Ensure that promotional materials comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external counsel to address and resolve ongoing legal concerns. Provide clear and practical legal advice to support business operations.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in California and in good standing.
- 2-4 years of experience at a law firm or in-house role with meaningful exposure to a broad range of contracts and intellectual property matters, including copyright, trademark, and rights of publicity.
- Experience in advertising and marketing compliance is a plus.
- Experience in product safety and compliance is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various business teams.
- Critical thinker with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
