As the Legal Associate at MAX, you will be responsible for structuring and executing strategic initiatives by developing comprehensive work plans, gathering and generating relevant data, conducting in-depth analyses, and crafting actionable recommendations.
What You’ll Do:
General Functions
- Support operations in Cameroon to manage risk, engaging law enforcement and government agencies for authorisations permits, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to address issues;
- Coordinate and manage disputes, claims, and related matters, ensuring protection for MAX’s interest and supporting the process of enforcing MAX’s rights;
- Support the business teams in ensuring legal compliance and in providing solutions to mitigate risks;
- Serve as a key strategic partner and advisor to MAX concerning contract management, compliance business support, and legal advisory.
- Participate in strategic planning and transactions and develop and execute the required negotiation strategies;
- Creatively solve problems and coordinate across the required legal and business functions;
- Stay informed of country legal requirements, rules, regulations, and other statutory requirements relating to our business, compliance and advise accordingly;
- Communicate in a manner that advances projects, creates clarity, utilizes insights, and closes open issues.
Strategic Functions
- Participate in the development, preparation, and review of MAX's policies, strategies, and plans, liaising with internal and external stakeholders as instructed by the Legal Counsel
Research and Analysis Function
- Undertake research projects to evaluate MAX's performance in the industry
- Present facts, intelligence, and insights for decision-making at the department level
Operational and Financial Management
- Develop and/or contribute to succinct, timely, informative, and accurate briefings, papers, and corporate reporting requirements
- Work with the C-level Executives & the Legal Counsel to set up and maintain quality control systems to further improve management systems, process documentation, etc
- Work with cross-functional teams to produce periodic/external/statutory reports
- Proactive in suggesting areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions
- Ensure all physical and electronic business records are stored and maintained in a recordkeeping system
- Ensure tasks undertaken to adhere to all policies and procedures
- Undertake other duties as directed by the executive team and the Legal Counsel
Project Management Function
- Prepare project briefs and manage projects within time and budget in accordance with established procedures
- Undertake independent research projects that require analysis of secondary data or desk research

Requirements
- LLB ( minimum of 2nd Class Upper)
- Licensed to practice law in Cameroon and Nigeria.
- Bilingual (English and French)
- 3 or more years of transactional experience from a reputable commercial law firm
