A new and exciting opportunity is available for a Legal Assistant to join the Maven New York Team and provide support on a wide variety of legal matters with a particular focus on the US region. Reporting to our US Legal Counsel, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with our Legal, Compliance, Traders, HR, Tax, Finance, and Operations teams and gain exposure to Maven’s different business areas. 

Although prior extensive legal is not required, this is a role that will develop your legal and knowledge. Successful candidates would typically have a basic understanding of and have  some legal experience and/or a legal or finance educational background with the ability to make balanced judgments.

This is a full-time permanent position with the opportunity to develop depending on your abilities and the business needs. 

 

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING:

  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the US Legal Department (including conducting legal research, responding to various legal inquiries from the business, and escalating issues to the relevant teams) supporting the US proprietary trading and market making businesses.
  • General administration support (including filing, execution of contracts and scheduling).
  • Complying with all applicable compliance policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Assist the US Legal Counsel with broker requests for setting up and maintaining trading relationships.
  • Following processes controls and making recommendations to improve the efficiency, control and work quality of existing processes
  • Providing paralegal support including contract review and management, updating, and maintaining templates and processes, maintaining corporate entities and formalities, and assisting with general corporate matters, as required.
  • Obtaining and maintaining an excellent understanding of the organisation and the products with a focus on regulations and laws in various jurisdictions.
  • Representing and supporting the legal team in ad-hoc projects and transactions, as required.
  • Collaborating with other teams and outside counsel when appropriate.
  • Assisting with the planning, design and implementation of projects and controls.
  • Assisting with training of staff.
  • Assisting the Compliance Team with local support on agreed time-sensitive processes and other ad hoc matters.
  • Reviewing, updating and implementing any changes to policies, practices, structures and procedures as directed by the US Legal Counsel.
  • Follow process controls and make recommendations to improve the efficiency, control, and work quality of existing legal and compliance processes.
  • General legal and administration support.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • High level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a legal and/or compliance team, law firm or professional services firm.
  • An appetite to learn quickly on the job.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to develop constructive professional relationships across the business.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that encourages intellectual curiosity and problem solving.
  • Self-motivated and team player.

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications and Adobe

What would be a plus:

  • Basic knowledge of financial products.
  • Exposure to hedge fund and/or broker dealer structures.

The salary range would be from $80,000 - $90,000
