Cortica is looking for a Leave and Workers’ Compensation Specialist to join our growing team!
In this role, you will provide administration and development of leaves and workers’ compensation case management processes and policies that help ensure excellent teammate experience while complying with all federal, state and municipal laws. This role requires strong interpersonal skills to smoothly navigate the complexities of administering these programs with empathy, efficiency, and innovation.

What will you do?
- Administer teammate leave of absences and workers’ compensation cases in compliance with all relevant labor laws as well as Cortica’s defined policies, procedures and core values.
- Act as a trusted advisor and advocate for teammates throughout their leave and workers comp journey.
- Serve as the main point of contact for teammates with workers’ compensation and leave of absence-related support needs, and respond to their requests in a courteous, professional, and personalized manner.
- Provide top-notch service and seamless experience for teammates seeking support through these processes by communicating timely, actively listening to each teammate’s situation with care and compassion, providing a fair and thorough review, and responding with empathy.
- Interface with workers’ compensation insurance representatives and claims adjusters, report incidents as needed, respond to requests with pertinent information in a timely fashion, and bring claims to resolution.
- Responsible for understanding all available options for support and providing the best solution for the teammate and the company.
- Manage caseload by appropriately setting priority, setting case management plans, and thoroughly documenting the execution of each step through to resolution.
- Consistently meet established metrics and performance standards for leave management and worker’s compensation cases, including response times, case resolutions, and documentation accuracy.
- Enter, review, and audit all paid parental leave payments.
- Communicate relevant information regarding teammate situations across the organization to stakeholders, such as the teammate’s manager, Payroll, or other HR team members.
- Develop strategies for enhancing Cortica’s workers’ compensation and leave of absence programs, including processes and materials designed to support and educate teammates, minimize costs, and facilitate teammates' return to work.
- Work with third-party vendors independently to determine appropriate claim outcomes.
- Works under general supervision. Expected to handle moderate issues and/or problems and will refer complex issues to direct manager.
- Provide support coverage for HR Operations team, primarily accommodations, as needed.
- Be trained and maintain working knowledge in accommodations and light duty processes to provide backup for teammates as needed.
- Facilitate HR training sessions relevant to workers’ compensation and leaves of absence.
- Occasional travel required for offsite meetings and events (typically less than 10% of the time).
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
We’d love to hear from you if:
- You bring 1+ years of HR-related experience.
- You bring 2+ years of case management experience.
- You have 6+ months of experience processing workers’ compensation or disability claims.
- You are familiar with employee accommodations process and requests.
- You possess strong judgment, with ability to work professionally and effectively in challenging situations.
- You have knowledge of employment law (federal, state and local), employment legislation, and compliance.

The base pay range for this opening is $29.51 to $31.90 per hour. According to your skill level, relevant experience, education level, and location, you will receive compensation that fits appropriately within the range.
