Lead Radiation Therapist

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

The Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for administering radiation therapy treatments and providing guidance and supervision to the radiation therapy team. They ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Perform all duties of a Radiation Therapist, including radiation delivery, patient education, and equipment quality assurance.
  • Conduct thorough chart checks for all patients undergoing treatment.
  • Verify the accuracy of billing codes and ensure proper processing.
  • Implement new protocols and procedures within the radiation therapy department.
  • Train and provide ongoing guidance to radiation therapists, ensuring they follow established protocols and standards.
  • Create and manage radiation therapist schedules to ensure adequate staffing and coverage.
  • Assist in maintaining radiation therapy equipment and coordinating maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the radiation oncology team to promote optimal patient care and treatment outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy or a related field; ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiation Therapy.
  • State licensure as a Radiation Therapist.
  • 5+ Years experience in a clinical leadership capacity.
  • Proficiency in operating radiation therapy equipment and associated software.
  • Strong understanding of radiation safety principles and adherence to radiation protection protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with exceptional organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Compassionate and empathetic demeanor when working with patients undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing clinical situations.
  • Strong commitment to patient care, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning and professional development.

PHYSICAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS:

The position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, extensive computer use, and phone interaction. Additionally, the role may require occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds for office supplies or equipment.
